After a year of unemployment and a year of prison

This may **** some people off but I don't really care.

I don't understand how you can be praising this guy. I mean all the 'wow, i don't know how you got through it, bla, bla, bla's'.

What was he supposed to do? Just kill himself.

He did what he did, got busted, rightfully, was given a punishment as to be made an example of, i.e a longer sentence than perhaps others would recieve, and now he's out and trying to get a job.

I mean yes, i'm glad your now legit and actually trying to get a job etc, not gong back to what you did.

Yes he's trying to get a job, but i have a job, its crappy but im still a student, my mum has a job, my dad has a job, all my brothers have jobs, my gf has a job.

The only exceptional thing i see here is that this guy actually got busted for what he did.

I agree with scoobydoobie a few pages back.

Yea! Maybe he should make something like the "The Screne"..

Clarification for people who have no idea what that is... It's actually The SCENE, not The SCRENE.

From the Slashdot story I wrote on it: "A few guys have gotten together to create a downloadable 'television show' about The Scene--the underground network of suppliers, rippers, and coders who bring pirated releases to the warez crowd. Each episode follows the happenings of Drosnan, the founder of a large release group, through numerous scene releases."

I'm actually one of the people who helps make the show. If you're interested, check it out: http://www.welcometothescene.com/

That?s extremely reasonable of you.

Seriously you start a post with that and i see no reason to read the rest, your attitude is extremely immature.

Well read the rest and see.

I said that because i get flamed etc just for saying my opinion.

that was a kinda disclaimer i guess.

Come on! he did great work!

If talking about killing something, then it would be nice for you all to go fight the overpopulation.

I don't think that throwing this guy in prison was right anyways.

This may **** some people off but I don't really care.

Actually I agree with you . Though unfortunate that this guy had to experience what he did he also knew that what he was doing is wrong and not allowed in the society that he lived in and chose to do it anyway. I am sure you had a very bad experience in jail, one that will stay in your mind forever, but it's jail, it's supposed to be a bad experience and a punishment for your crimes, not a 1 year visit to a resort. Looking at the software scene these days you can see why it's important that people purchase games legally. As unfortunate as your times may have been you still were aware of what you were doing and openly chose to commit to these actions, your story is interesting, but please do not gripe about being punished for doing something illegal when you were fully aware that it was illegal to begin with.

I knew I wasn't the only one who thinks it's wrong to be praising him on his "accomplishments". People just don't understand the impact Shane and others have had on the software industry. and I don't mean a good impact either.

Again, I'm sorry to have been so harsh in earlier posts but that does not change my point of view. I'll just be a little more civil in my wording.

lol whatever, there has not been ONE person EVER who could not install software that they legitly paid for

I never said that. I said it's become more of a pain in the ass to install software, not that it couldn't be done. Please refrain from putting words in my mouth.

We won't even give you the pleasure, hemorrhoid. Your whole argument was a flop.

This coming from someone who was what, 12 years old by the time razor was done...

This may surprise some of you, but the reason you have to endure such strict licensing methods and copy protections has very little to do with the "warez scene". The main reason you have to endure them is because of corporate and commercial piracy. Situations where a company buys one copy of a program and installs it on all of their systems, or where an individual buys one copy and then makes 10,000 copies to sell on the streets of any major city in the world. Yes, the warez scene is participating in illegal activities, breaking the law, but they are but a fraction of the global piracy issue. You think companies download some warez groups release of a program? No way, they at least want to know that the product that their using is the real deal, not to mention at least being able to get some technical support. Software companies suspect that not every home consumer is going to buy a $400.00 copy of MS Office 2003 for every computer in their house. However, they do expect every company to do so. Knowing that almost one in four businesses use "pirated software" (remember, if you bought one copy and put it on more than one machine at the same time, you just pirated software) they have to come up with better methods of copy protection and product activation. It's not primarily because of the "warez scene", no no no, it's because of the corporate world and the people who walk down the street buying Longhorn CD's & Spiderman 2 a week before it's in theaters from street vendors. That's why you're stuck with the registrations, validations and the likes.

Research a little, read a little. Don't believe the hype, find out for yourself. The "warez scene" is just a convenient scapegoat for the global piracy issue. They can't show you the real piracy problem because it exists in almost every corporation in the world. The take downs and busts of the "warez scene" are nothing more than P.R. Sure, it slows down the trading on P2P networks for a while, but it picks right back up again. No, the real problem and the real blame for all that you have to endure lies within the walls of corporate America and every other country that doesn't follow strict auditing and compliance guidelines.

As for the job, I really need this job. It's not easy for a family of 4 to live on a single income of 30k a year. Not with mortgage payments and everything.

Apr 6 2005

I bring home about $52,000.00 USD a year.

I don't understand. you've lost $22,000.00 in less than a month?

Hey mate,

I'm not gonna read all these posts, I've checked out your rap-sheet and know what you were inside for. Though I don't condone your wrongs I'm not judging you either.

Just wanted to pass on my good regards to you for getting your life back together.

Best of luck

Hey Shawn

So did you get the job?

Just read the whole thread - took an hour off my study time heh.

Yea I know razor1911 from the 90's and it was a very respectable group.

I've had friends in prison too[in Asia] - I guess it is the same everywhere. I've heard almost similar prison as yours and prison mates beating you up or raping you.

If you did the book, I would definately buy it too.

Good luck in life.

Sure, people may not be playing pirated games on their PC's at work, but did you not read the part about CD's being mass copied and sold on the streets? You think that comes from warez groups?

Scooby, I'm through debating with you. You've turned this thread into an argument AGAIN, which I think you enjoy doing anyway.

Everytime you bitch and moan about some copy protection that the software or movie industry is implementing (and there are a lot of you) then you can put some of the blame or maybe alot of the blame on people like this.

The only person in this thread bitching and moaning about copy protection/activation/etc.. is YOU. No one else came in here complaining about it. You don't agree with Mr. Pitman's (Shane, if I may) previous actions, fine. You've said your piece. Now move along.

Shane is trying to get his life back together. For that, I believe, he deserves praise for.

I, for one, am not the type of person to judge someone by their previous, current or future actions. As I know I am no saint. I will, however, wish Shane the best of luck on this and any future job opportunites. I am in the IT field as well on the Applications side. It's a tough job market out there these days. Just GETTING the interview is a major step.

Good Luck and best wishes!

Maverick

It's a long story. The short version is that I became involved at a young age, back in the BBS days. Eventually I came in contact with the demo and early warez groups. One thing led to another, I eventually ran my own BBS with a few friends. It just slowly progressed from there to the internet. That's the abbreviated version. I'll try to come up with a longer more detailed account, but I may not be able to post it here.

I wish you the best of luck Shane!

a quick thought, scooby bitching about Copy protection and activation keys. Could it be because.........never mind. let everyone ponder that.

Software purchased legitimately comes included with any keys and so its a two second job to type it in when installing. not much of a hassle is it? and copy protection for the same software, if u got the cd, y u need another copy? backup purposes maybe, but i keep things where i can find them.

Just my thoughts.
