I just got an athlon 64 cpu and I need a motherboard to go with it. Right now I'm looking at MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum but it doesn't support the CNPS7700-Cu heatsink or the XP-120 heatsink. I want to use one of those heatsinks but seeing that this motherboard won't support it, I am looking for another motherboard with similar performance and price. I will be overclocking so I also need a motherboard that gives me many options for overclocking.Recommend me something! :)

Isn't the DFI NF4 PCI-E only? Right now I'm looking at this Abit Fatal1ty AN8 motherboard which supports both AGP and PCI-E, and with good overclocking capabilities

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all nForce 4 boards PCI-E only?

Anyway, the MSI K8N Neo2-F is listed as compatible on Zalman's list of CNPS7700 compatible motherboards. Is there any real difference between the Neo2-F and Neo2 Platinum? Both are nForce 3 Ultra boards.

who told you it doesnt support it???

check the picture out...

note the black pcb of the neo2 board and the 120mm beast

I checked the Compatibility list on the zalman site and it doesn't say it supports K8N Neo 2 Platinum anywhere

At the bottom it says K8N Neo2 Platinum is incompatible so..

Any of the three I mentioned is good, the AV8 seems to have problems, check the Abit forums for that. But the last two are good particularly the Asus all have good overclocking options.

K8T800 is newer than Nforce 3, so I would go for the Via chipset.

If your a mad overclocker go for the DFI like the guys said.

are both nforce 3 and k8t800 pro chipsets equally good? Would the AV8 be a good choice? It seems to have a lot of overclocking options

The K8T800-Pro uses a VIA chipset. The A8V uses nForce 4, which means upgrading to a PCI-E video card. If you want to keep your AGP video card, you're best off going with a board that uses the nForce 3 Ultra chipset. Something like the Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939 board.

My recommendation: AGP is dead anyway, so you may as well spend a bit of extra money and upgrade to a PCI-E video card and an nForce 4 Ultra board.

I agree. Someday you're going to have to jump ship to PCIe, so you might as well do it now, otherwise you might be finding yourself in the situation where you're constantly upgrading with AGP and never wanting to throw away that platform.

A8V uses the Via chipset, the A8N uses Nforce :p.

Got a 9800 Pro, AXP 1800 here and needs a cpu/mobo upgrade, should I go for S939 AGP or PCI-E?

Man what a dilemma :p.
