I don't think it has the graphical prowess for it. Even most top end PCs struggle with Oblivion. :|

If you turn the graphics down far enough it doesn't look any better than Morrowind, which ran on the Xbox.

Wii is more powerful than the Xbox, so I have no doubt it can handle Oblivion to at least some degree. Probably not even at those lowest graphical settings.

Man i'm getting pretty pumped up about PS3 and Wii. I want both now.. damn i'm going to need a $1000+ to get both and some games. I better start doing some work. Time to save up over the summer and game it in the winter! :D

How exactly is the download system going to work?

I mean getting old console games on the Wii.

Something like XBLA? Download them off onto the memory/flash card?

Dont forget about AI and physics. There is more to a game and how much hardware it uses then graphics.

Well the minimum requirement for the CPU is a 2Ghz P4. It might be a tight squeeze for a 730Mhz G3/G4-level chip, definately requiring changes. But if it's the 1.1Ghz number I don't see that being much of a problem, especially with some work to optimize the engine to the processor - worst case some small insignificant objects lose physics, the AI isn't as advanced as Bethesda made it out to be.

Nintendo licensed Havok for their SDKs so it's not like Wii is going to be devoid of physics, AI's just more a developer thing.

Nobody has actually confirmed it's 730MHz.

this is interesting, found the link at beyond3d

EN: How about the Wii hardware? What are the specs?

XP: Although i cannot give you exact numbers at this time i can give you a rough idea about the power of the machine. I would compare the graphics chip to somewhere inbetween the ATI Radeon X1400 and the Radeon X1600, and the CPU to between the AthlonXP 2400+ and the AthlonXP 3000+.

EN: Can you tell us how much memory at what speed the Wii has?

XP: I cannot say how much memory the Wii has, but its running at 650mhz.

EN: As we saw in many current-gen titles, 480p can result in significant jaggies. Can we expect AA and AF from Ubisoft's Wii titles?

XP: Red steel will have 4x Antialiasing and 8x Anisotropic Filtering.

EN: We've been hearing a lot of consistent talk about 60fps at 480p widescreen from other developers. Is this something we'll see a lot of on Wii?

XP: I believe so yes.

EN: Why is this target so easy to hit?

XP: The hardware is totally free of bottlenecks, nothing is slowing us down.

EN: For us graphics ######, what kind of sweet graphical effects will we see in Red Steel or Rayman that we haven't

seen in Gamecube games?

XP: We have alot of self shadowing going on, also we will have some normal maps and bump maps things like that.

EN: Could you possibly tell us anything specific about the Wii GPU?

XP: I can tell you that it has double the number of pixel pipelines (of gamecube), and that it processes physics. It really takes a huge load off of the cpu.

EN: Is the T&L setup fixed function like it was on the gamecube?

XP: No, fully programmable.

EN: How much Edram does it have?

XP: 2MB for the framebuffer 2MB for the Zbuffer and 4MB for texture cache. Unfortunately I am out of time, id like to come back for another interview sometime.

Moreover, during the show GameDaily BIZ met with ATI, which is providing the "Hollywood" GPU for the Wii, and John Swinimer, Senior Public Relations Manager of Consumer Products, emphasized that the Wii architecture is capable of producing far better results than what we've witnessed thus far. "I think what you saw [on Wii] was just the tip of the iceberg of what the Hollywood chip can bring to the Nintendo Wii," he said.

Has their been a expected date for launch or more to the point maybe a estimate for a pre-order

I'm guessing Nov. 3rd or Nov. 10th, although, no real release date has been announced, I'm just making a decent educated guess.

No idea when pre-ordering is possible, though. Possibly July/August time.

That PSU looks like it is next to a booth, probably from E3, so it will be powering a modded GameCube which probably requires less power, but it might be similar anyway

yea it is, maybe cruisin World 2!!!

I love the original for N64!

I've decided that I'm going to buy the Wii around release time if it's around $300-$350 CAD and probably wait for a price drop on the PS3 before spending a good $700 on it. :|

Any definative price ideas on it? How exactly will sports games like FIFA soccer be played on the Wii?

man I can't wait for the Wii, so much more interaction compared to the other next gen consoles. Hopefully prices will be cheap here in Aus, I really want one!
