toxictoaster_737
I have decided To make a new question Take into consideration that this, question is posed towards systems that have >1gb of ram. I am not asking whether it is recomended....i am asking whether or not it improves performance. Thanks Edited May 18, 2005 by toxictoaster_737 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/322020-does-turning-off-swap-file-improve-performance/ Share on other sites
chmsant
again... see my post in that forum... windows will ALWAYS use some sort of pagefile... thats it. Turning it off does nothing, and in fact will slow windows down as it will have to increase if your computer is under memory load. OPaul
Why would it improve performance? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/322020-does-turning-off-swap-file-improve-performance/#findComment-585940217 Share on other sites

Zxian
There are more situations where the pagefile is beneficial to your computer's performance than it hinders it. I've run my computers both ways, and always ended up turning the pagefile back on. Adam Theriault
The only people dumb enough to vote yes just do it to see the pool I?m guessing... Honestly, there a "null vote" for a reason. mr_demilord
If you have enuf RAM it won't use the swap so set the swap on a separate partition/harddrive will do it. It makes no sence to turn it off, you won't notice a thing. |Maxim|
windows always needs the page file regardless of how much ram you have, also windows (system) cannot use all of the ram it has to be shared with the programs (application) . so to answer the original question no it wouldnt improve performance. if you want to try something out (need a lot of ram for this one) create a ram disk with a 3rd part app and put the pagefile on the ramdisk, see the attached image for the one i created. i didnt leave it cause i only have 1gb of ram. it did incease performance if only by a little. as soon as i get another 1gb im going to create a 512mb ram disk and chuck the pagefile there Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/322020-does-turning-off-swap-file-improve-performance/#findComment-585942916 Share on other sites
