the 2 best av's are symantec corp 10 and nod32, hands down. Those are your only real choices.

:blink: Based on what? Your gut instinct? The best AV program in the world is Sophos - which antivirus program do you think the vast majority of banks and financial institutions place their faith in?

Mcafee. Even the people on the nod forums on wilders will tell you mcafee has a higher detection rate than nod. As far as resources I cant tell a difference between nod and mcafee. I dont see why thats a problem anymore. Computer stuff is so cheap now. I have always been a mcafee fan though. The next av I would get after mcafee is kaspersky or nod dont want to sound like a nod hater cuase im not.

I have been using Norton Internet Security 2005 since it's released, So far, no virus, trojan or any kind of malware was found and NIS2005 never get crushed or conflicted with other software unlike Kasperskey

Symantec, securities you can trust^_^

and the other antivirus i may use is Nod 32, its light but also trustworthy

I dont know what my fav would be. I use AVG but I dont think its good at real time scanning. I tend to find crappy virus's that have come in via webbrowsing (Java etc).

Norton tends to be good but then I dont want to loose 50% of my CPU either. If you find your PC is sluggish remove Norton and notice the difference.

AVG will do for now. It traps major virus's that come in via Email.

Nod32, here is why. I ran a scan right before I uninstalled norton, it found NO infected files. Then I installed Nod32 and ran a scan. Nod32 discovered 37 infected files that Norton didnt, it even found a file on my C: drive that was holding TONS of warez that wasnt mine!!! And all of those files were infected.

NOD32?:yes::

Which Norton AV did you use and what kind of infections all these 37 files?

virus, trojan, spyware, adware or malware?

Frankly i really doubt that result, Norton's disadvantage is its a resourse hog for it's a Ring 0 booting antivirus, and it always quarantine the infected files instead of removing it which other AV like Kasperskey prefers (actually this should not be considered symantec's disadvantage for its just different values)

but the hit rate of Norton is one of the highest in the industry (the only 2 100% virus samples detected AV in the windows XP platform are Norton and Nod 32 according to a report VB 100% supplied, which can be found in the Nod 32 HongKong official site: http://www.nod32.com.hk/news/compare.htm the third diagram: windows XP platform)

Figures always telling the truth, so it's almost impossible that Nod32 find out 37 virus that Norton missed, how about trojans or other malware? still cannot convince me since these domains are Nod 32 's weakpoint

now it's time to go back to the topic, if i have to make an alternative choice between Nod32 and Mcafee, Nod32 will be the proper choice:))
