Congratulations to the Reds on showing amazing heart not to simply give up down 3-0 at the half. That 6 minute display was incredible. I'm still recovering from the trauma of the event. After Shevchenko's penalty was blocked, my remote control met a quick and sudden demise and I was forced to purchase a new one. People may argue the penalty but it shouldn't even have gotten that close. AC Milan is a team that's not supposed to blow a 3-0 lead, not with that supposedly vaunted defensive backfield. It's been a tough month or so for the Rossoneri. First finishing second to Juve and now this :no:. This is the third time I've been so traumatized by a penalty shootout. Had to watch the Azzurri fall victim to it in the final of the '94 World Cup to Brazil and in the quarters to France in '98. To be fair over the last 5 years Liverpool have encompassed everything ive hated about the game, the negative defensive style football. A throw back to the dark ages of football if you will. (Wimbledonesque). Over the last few years english football has been based around an attacking style of play and with the resurgence on arsenal and chelsea, i felt as though this defensive style had seen its day in the premiership. After seeing liverpool this season and there performances in europe it seems as though i was wrong. There is a difference between trying to defend and simply not coming to play as Jose Mourinho suggested. To be brutally honest I felt as if it mocked everything that Man UTD did back in 1999. The champions League qualification needs to be looked at seriously and if 5 places are awarded this season i really believe they need to drop the "champions" part of the naming to avoid any further confusion. Im a fan of football and in my opinion liverpool dont play football the way i think it should be played. Liverpool in the 70's and 80's played football that attracted fans the world over and im not denying the fact they are a successful club. Its about time Liverpool fans stopped living on past glories. Aside from the replay last night I heard it's going to air on ESPNClassic as an Instant Classic by week's end. Plus Sportscenter showed highlights (not just one play in the Top 10) within the first 15 minutes of the program this morning. NEVER seen that for soccer from them before. And it was on two sports talk shows they air each night. The attention is well-deserved and long over-due. And I think Liverpool played the final exactly the way it should be played -- with a never say die attitdue. Maybe Milan deservered the win or maybe they didn't (did they deserve to knock PSV out?) but that's football for you. They won it by penalties last time, and they lost it by penalties this time. If Milan is good enough, they will win it back next year. I am not ashamed to say that in my life i have only been to 1 liverpool match (sat in the middle of thousands of arsenal fans at highbury with the little boy, a scarey experience). This however is due to geographical and monetary constraints not due to lack of want. I have not been to anfield (however that will change in july when the family will all be going) and no, none of my family come from Liverpool. Are you one of those that says "support your local team or you cant be a true supporter?" If so, why is your team visiting the USA in summer and why do they persistently visit the far east? To further their fan base thus increasing income and enabling the buying of better players in the hope of winning a trophy a la Liverpool and the champions league in 2005.
