Trying to reach Atlanta the last couple of seasons seemed to move them in the wrong direction. Gator Posted June 17, 2002 Share Posted June 17, 2002 Life long Yankees fan here: While I am very upset with the Yankees performance this weekend, I think the Mets will come out of this series with a confidense booster. Then can either use this to boost them or they can go back to below .500 ball. Its a shame that they spent all that money this past winter to go out and build a winning team and it has flunked majorly. This shows you that you can't "buy" a winning team. This year the Mets' payroll exceeds 100 million along with the Yankees, of course, and look at the difference in the standings so far. I remember when they had the next big pitcher staff with B Jones, Jason I (cant spell his last name. Closer for Cards), and B Wilson. I mean they had them, just bad breaks went their way.
