controversy over 49er "training video"

Recommended Posts

wow the 49ers have turned into league jokes since walsh has left and this isnt helping with their public image.

It was meant to be funny -- but no one is laughing now in the San Francisco 49ers' front office over an in-house training film that featured off- color racial jokes, lesbian porn, a spoof of gay marriage and a trio of buxom, topless blondes frolicking with team public relations director Kirk Reynolds.

The 15-minute video, some of which was filmed in the City Hall office of Mayor Gavin Newsom -- who comes in for a few unsubtle swipes -- was intended as a primer on how players should handle the media in diverse San Francisco.

Instead, it's turned into a team embarrassment -- with PR man Reynolds looking for another job

Nowadays these so called "professional" athletes and organizations do not know when

enough is enough. And they think they're above the law. Illegal Drugs, DUI's, Perfomance enhancing drugs, domestic violence.....etc........ . Yes these are real people, that are supposed to be representing their team, city, and/ or state. They should be holding themselves to a higher standard not acting like a bunch of overpaid infants.

Man, I miss Eddie DeBartolo, Jr.

John York is a ****ing prick, I wish he would sell the team. He does nothing productive at all, doesn't even live in San Francisco...let alone California (he resides in Cleveland, of all places)...and has no control of this team. Once the proud, professional team in the West Bay is quickly becoming worse than the punks across the Bay.

Blah.

What does your rant have to do with the topic.

What do you mean by nowadays? These types of things were happening in the 60's and 70's. Just because they are paid millions of dollars, athletes don't magically become perfect people. How are they acting like a bunch of overpaid infants?

Just go to the link in the original post. It will take you to SFgate, where the article is, but they also have a link to the video. It's broken down into 8 parts and is in MOV format, so you need Quicktime or an alternative.

The sad thing is that the video is a very accurate representation on what players actually do.  It's not exactly meant for public viewing though.

Exactly.

What irritates me, however, is the 49ers have never really had players with controversy. Terrell Owens was really the first guy to bring some sort of drama to the 49ers and we had no idea how to react to him because of the professional, respectful, team-first players that have historically been in a 49ers uniform. And it wasn't like he was out running over meter-maids with his SUV, he just had a bad temper on the field (and some pretty crappy remarks about teammates). So, it makes the video even more curious. I'm sure there are other, more effective ways to get a point across to players.

Download anyone?? Too funny.

A VHS copy of the 49ers team training video was obtained by The Chronicle. In order to make viewing the tape online less vulnerable to Internet bandwidth overload, the video has been divided into 8 segments, following natural break points in the source program. The entire tape, as received by The Chronicle, is presented here, however we have deliberately blurred scenes which contain nudity. This content is not suitable for children. Obscene language is audible in several of the clips. If you have not done so, please read the disclaimer. NOTE: QuickTime software version 6 or above is required to view these clips

This is funny. A diversity video that uses humor, and nothing illegal, and because the target audience is highly paid individuals, there is an outrage. If this was released at CANNES there would be no issues.

The purpose was to show what not to do, and be funny about it. Why is it when a diversity class is taught by a 'afro-American' they can do things that are worst, like make all the white people wear certain hats, or be treated different to make them get the point, using 'negative' stereo types.

This video, from what i read, and it is the same thing that everyone has noted, (i am working on get a copy from a Friend with connections to the 49ners), there is basically nothing wrong, except POLITICAL correctness gone wild.

Where's Penn & Tell's BS show when you need them.

I agree with thejohnnyq. Has America lost its sense of humor? Political Correctness will ruin this country. If everyone could just take a step back from their immediate offense and look at WHO the video was intended for, and what it was ACTUALLY saying, there would be no problem; but no. Some people can only look at the surface.
