BF2 demo

Recommended Posts

BF2demo works like a baby's behind here .... very smooth :) at 1600x1200 everything max...

The coolest thing I've done in BF2demo so far, was an attack with 2 APC's in the water on that big carrier .... very cool! :)

I know this has been asked before, but when i open console and enter 'renderer.viewFPS 1' (without quotation marks) i get 'wrong syntax error', or something.

So can some kind person tell me a correct command to display FPS or why mine isn't working?

Thank-youuuuuuuuu.

There is no in-game support for 1280x1024 resolution like in BF1942. This is my monitors native resolution and running a game fullscreen at any other resolution causes a lot of jaggies. If the game doesn't support 1280x1024 without the shortcut swtich (it doesn't work too well), I will not be buying it. Shame really.

And the fact it keeps needing to 'optimise' certain parts of the engine everytime any video settings are changed is very annoying, as well as the fact it needs to load the menu. How daft, no other game does this.

Just found this on another forum mate;

Btw guys, I came across this 5 mins ago...

CODE

+menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

Add to shortcut ^ , to play in beautiful 1280 x 1024 ;)

Hope it works for you.

I finally found a 64 person server where everyone was actually working in squads. It is so much more fun working in groups and given orders then it is going solo. I noticed the other team was not operating in squads, we were, and we completely dominated the other team. I haven't had this much squad fun since Operation Flashpoint.

Try typing rendere and hit tab ... BF2 completes the command, just type a few letters, and hit tab, work your way up from there ...

Have you guys seen the fixes for the demo yet? There are 3 Ive tried, remove time limit, unlock weapon kits, add more bots to single player. You can also play coop with friends. I have tried them all and they work. Got them from the forums at Total BF2

Well what is funny is after 3 days now of working fine, the game freezes everytime I get to the server broswer. Just freezes, no response at all. I am still able to hear the cheesey background music still though (which by the way sounds like a soundtrack to a really bad porn LOL).

I restarted my comp just to see what was up, and same deal.

This is really truly puzzling as for 3 days it ran fine. And I have not changed a damn thing, i.e. drivers, graphical settings, or anything along those lines either. Nothing at all has changed. I guess I will have to reinstall it or something.

I am off to try it again, and this time I am sure it will work, which will add even more to the puzzle.

1. Half Life - 19476 servers, 55325 players

2. Half Life 2 - 10736 servers, 44930 players

3. Battlefield 2 Demo - 2258 servers, 27331 players

That says it all right there guys. BF1942 and Vietnam NEVER saw this kind of playtime, even combined they would be lucky to hit 15,000 servers and 18,000 players at any given time. And this is a demo, out for like 3 days. EA's server(s?) are probably overloaded to high hell.

I just found an awesome strategy. Be Special Forces and find a buggy. Load it up with C4 and drive into an emeny base and then get out and blow it up. I did this and one time I killed 4 people and a tank! Also it leads to a great game for lans... C4 BUGGY TAG! Everyone gets buggys with C4 and one person that's it has to blow up another. Once he does that person is it. Me and 2 friends were doing this on his no timelimit server... Which now also has unlocked weapons.

hah.. what I usually do is plant c4 all over one of the enemies empty cargo helicopters.. wait for a few secs for them to load it up and start flying around.. once they have flown around for awhile I press the button and they all die with a nice explosion :D

I can totally own most capture points myself just by using a the slick helicopter or a nice tank.. so fun just charging in and killing dozens of enemies camping the capture point.

Mmmhmm. But if you tell your squad to hold back and then go and rush in and blow up most everyone there then your squad runs in and captures it... Freaking awesome.

Finally got my game working again...

Squad leader, with 68 experience points in one round...

Damn, I do semi wish they were already keeping stats. :D

Also, something I just realized I have not tried not also not heard, why have I not heard any voices at all. Is voice talk disabled for the demo?

VOIP is not disabled in the demo. But it only works in Squads and people still rarly speak. But if you find a squad in which people all have a mic and use it, it's awesome.

Quick question.. how well would a Radeon 9800 Pro play this game? I do like what I see from the demo so far, but my Radeon 9600 Pro EZ (slower clock than normal 9600 Pro) isn't handling it too well.. as you can get 9800 Pros nice and cheap now, I wanna know if it would make a significant different on this game!

Cheers :)

9800 Pro should handle it very well, i am playing using a 9800XT, which isnt that much more powerful and i can run everything at full, thats with 3ghz intel and 1gb ram

Well my AMD Barton 2.0ghz with a Radeon 9700 Pro and 1 GB ram only manages medium settings at 1280X960/1024 anything on high and the frame rate is hell.

I think its fate that this game is released on pay day (24th in Europe) - will definately go pick it up as I have enjoyed the demo.

Though I have to say I do prefer the controlability of the helicopters in Desert Combat more than I do in this.. it seems easier to make fast landings / pickups etc in Desert Combat after you've mastered the controls compared to Battlefield 2!

I don't know... never played DC, but I find controlling the helicopter in BF2 super easy now that I've flown it several times. I am now able to precisely aim the missiles at different distances, w/o crashing once.

I die a few times from anti-aircraft missiles, but even that is fairly rare these days.

I do a lot of quick landings by the enemies artillery so I can blow them up w/ my c4 when I play the Special Forces class.

You just have to make sure the centre line is level and your viewpoint is above ground level.
