1ceman
Okay so this is the setup. I have me and my roomates on router hidden somewhere in the apartment complex thats providing our internet. Then I have another network card in my computer that goes to a router which bridges off to my xbox. I want to know if three things are possible. First is, is there a way to allow my xbox to connect to the internet through my computer with the current setup i have and in addition to that is there a way i can ftp to my xbox with the current setup and lastly is there a way the xbox can gain access to my roomates' computers with this setup Thank you, I have included a picture to help yall get a better visual. 1ceman
And the reason it is set up like this is because Me and one of my roomates was getting our internet from a cable modem because it was faster but we stopped it. So before I was able to connect to the internet with my xbox and FTP to it. And i left the cable going into the wall for my apt's router so i could send stuff to my other roomate. I have included a picture to give you a good visualization Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/330353-sharing-through-a-computer/#findComment-586041904 Share on other sites

DaveLegg Developer Posted June 11, 2005 Developer Share Posted June 11, 2005 Get a switch in your room and connect it between the wall socket and your computer. Connect your xbox to that. 1ceman
Now if I do that will I still be able to gain access to my roomates' computers? Cause if its possible, I don't know how to set that up. DaveLegg Developer Posted June 11, 2005 Developer Share Posted June 11, 2005 If your roommates connect through the switch too I can see no problems with trying to access their computers. The setup should be pretty much the same as before. You could also use the router in uplink mode if it supports it instead of buying a switch. Again, config should be the same as before. 1ceman
well that would be a lot of wires coming from my room, plus wouldnt that slow down our connection each? Its just a lot easier when each bedroom has a ethernet jack in it you know. DaveLegg Developer Posted June 11, 2005 Developer Share Posted June 11, 2005 Judging by your diagram of the old setup you had wires coming from your room anyway. And yes it would result in a slower connection, but you probably wouldnt notice it much. jus1haz2
Put the "another router" in client mode and it will act as a switch and it should all work I believe. If you could do it before then you should be able to do it in this setup Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/330353-sharing-through-a-computer/#findComment-586051311 Share on other sites
1ceman
yea dave your right it would be one more wire but we'd definitely notice, we constantly download stuff and we all play world of warcraft so i think it would probably make a difference jus1haz2 i'm not sure what you mean by i could do it before. and i'll see if i can put my router in client mode to see if that'll make any difference Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/330353-sharing-through-a-computer/#findComment-586051444 Share on other sites
