Tiftof
hey, I was just cleaning my windows a bit. It has been working very well: I haven't had any spyware in months, nor a virus or something. It rarely crashes (can't even remember the last time). But the ram usage seems a bit heavy to me, I'm not sure. I have 512 megs of ram installed in my laptop. When windows xp (sp2) is fully booted, then it is using 300 megs of ram already. I think this is a bit to much. The 200 megs left get full pretty quick when surfing, chatting and listening to music. I don't have much things booting up with windows as you can see in the screenie of msconfig. So what is using all my ram, is that just windows that needs this much ram? Any tips on reducing ram usage? thx Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/332103-ram-usage/ Share on other sites
Eredain
Check the ram usage from process. Perhaps the antivirus is using too much. My windows uses 200-250 ram almost always. So, it's not so rare. dreamz Veteran Posted June 14, 2005 Veteran Share Posted June 14, 2005 if you're not experiencing any problems, why are you concerned about ram usage? you have it, so you might as well use it. if a program needs more ram, it will be re-allocated automatically by xp. of course, you can always disable unnecessary services (see black viper) and eliminate startup items.
