sebaz
First and foremost heres info on the whole OSX x86 deal: ... Also shipping inside the development kit packages is a keyboard, mouse, power cable, keyboard cable, and Mac OS X 10.4.1 for Intel DVD. Sources so far have reported absolutely no luck in their attempts to boot the included copy of Mac OS X for Intel on other PC systems. In their attempts to do so, they have reportedly been met by error messages stating that the PC hardware configurations are not supported by Darwin -- the underlying UNIX-based foundation to Mac OS X... Taken from: http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1146 Regarding the whole Windows on mac deal: ... "We will not allow running Mac OS X on anything other than an Apple Mac," he said. On the other hand, Schiller said Apple won't intentionally stop users from trying to run Microsoft's Windows operating system on the forthcoming Intel-based Macs, although there will be no official support from Apple on that front. "That doesn't preclude someone from running [Windows] on a Mac. They probably will," he said... Tim Dorr Veteran Posted June 29, 2005 Veteran Share Posted June 29, 2005 Yeah, no all you got to do is burn the CD image using Nero and you have OSx86 on CD!:DD 586138659 But not on your PC. It's already been shown that the install disc doesn't run on standard X86 PCs, just Apple's particular dev machines. Xylene
The whole "It'll get cracked" arguement is POINTLESS AND RETARDED. The only thing that'll need to be cracked will be the DRM, which is in the form of a special chip from what I've heard. That'll still be pointless unless ALL IF YOUR HARDWARE IS SUPPORTED, WHICH IT WON'T BE. DELETEMYACCOUNTTTTTTTT
Somebody is a bit cranky, I think you need to take a nap or something 586140305 He also needs to get his facts straight. The only mention of a DRM chip was some article saying "Hey, they could use this if they wanted to." Also, any hardware supported by Darwin x86 should most likely work under OS X86 with tweaking. Chad
Since people are so unaware of our clearly stated rules, let me clarify so there's no mistake. 1) ANY talk of downloading this file is against the rules. It's obvious who should legally have this release. It has a price tag of at least $999 and is NOT available for legal download anywhere. However, if you did purchase an Apple Dev system, you entered into a legally binding agreement with them to not install the OS on any other system, among other things. It's called the EULA...and yes, it is legally binding. 2) Any talk of attempting to install, or linking to a "How to..." on installing this is against the rules. 3) Half the thread ended up being nothing but troll posts. How people miss that rule still puzzles me. If you are posting something that is desrespectful to another member...just don't. 4) Anything else that we feel does not adhere to our rules. If you follow the board guidelines, this should be a non-issue and the thread will stay open. tetmin
I just thought i'd clear some things on this post up, there of course were some fake versions around on IRC and Bittorrent. But in the past few days there has been a release of a semi-legit version of Os X x86. I've been following the progress on an IRC room which i won't post here, and a couple of forums which again i can't post. Basically this new build is not the install DVD, it is instead a backup of one of the hard drives from a dev system. The guys on the IRC forum have figured out how to get as far as possible with this build, it involves installing Darwin x86 8.1 on your system, and then extracting the hard disk backup into this installation. However, there were a few components missing, which they managed to replace from Darwin and this lead to people seeing the Apple logo and spinning thing as OS x was loading. Unfortunatley the guy who released this had stripped the image of some vital features which prevent the GUI from being viewed. But this proves that if a legitimate backup or the installation DVD are released we will be able to install them on our systems. Although, there may be a few driver issues with graphics cards etc. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/333411-x86-mac-os-tiger-surfaces-again-on-bit-torrent/page/3/#findComment-586147443 Share on other sites
neocitron
it's interesting to see how this unfolds. but i know it's not worth my effort to install a cracked version of OS X on my PC... i still have my iMac. besides all the mac programs are running in PPC emulation mode. with the exception of the core apps like iTunes or Safari. tetmin
True, however, the whole of iLife has already been ported to x86 and is included in the dev release, however Rosetta doesn't appear to be included. This means that only apps which have been ported to x86 will be able to run with this current release if people get any further with it. I'm not sure if Rosetta is actually included on the dev DVD or not though.
