d4rkn1ght
why do people use ie 6 why god why??? Because with Windows IE6 you can download things that you can't in other browsers. d4rkn1ght
So which "other browsers" can filter out these files? Some will do a better job in detecting some of those things, but I'm afraid there is not a single browser that can protect you from all that. The better solution will be to change OS. MacOS, Linux, or whatever else that it's not Windows will be better and more secure.

Nope, I don't think any browser does any virus detection at all. Other than IE, all browsers handle files according to the mime type set in the http header. IE would also check the file signature handle files according to a decision process based on the mime type and the actual content.
madd_matt
I voted firefox, although its really split between it and konqueror, with a good deal of links and dillo browsing on my older machines.

hkore
Yes Firefox is the way slightly off topic : which browser uses less RAM?
Angelico_Payne
Firefox, offcourse (is there any other :D ) Sadly there is - IE , cause not all pages will open in Firefox.... Opera is pretty good, but I use Firefox because of its funcionality and usability I get with plugins (~30 installed) There are nice clons of IE (for people coming of crack.... ergh.... IE ;) )
Denis W. Veteran Posted January 17, 2006 Veteran Share Posted January 17, 2006 slightly off topic : which browser uses less RAM? Say you used the browsers out of the box without tweaking it. Opera would be the least RAM consuming browser. Now for people like me, Firefox 1.5 and Opera 8.51 gulp up roughly the same amount of RAM, with Opera being slightly more responsive. The difference is marginal, if you ask me, although some people here report Firefox 1.5 leaking memory like crazy.
DELTETHISACCOUNT
I use only Internet Explorer. It loads all of my pages, it does what I want it to. No reason to switch.
Angelico_Payne
Yes there are some issue of memory consuming and random freeze-ups when 20-30 pages are opened, however, many of the problems, come not from FirefoX itself, but from plugins - bare in mind, these plugins, are amatuer work, and are not made & tested work in simbiosis... e.g. I get a freeze-up when ForecastFox reloads whether data, when multiple pages are loading. But honestly, overall, using Firefox without extensions is like eating bread without peanutt butter, so if I would compare browsers like that, Opera would have an edge, as would some IE clones like Avast,... +Troll Subscriber¹ Posted January 18, 2006 Subscriber¹ Share Posted January 18, 2006 IE7 - It does everything I need and runs much smoother than Firefox did for me. The only thing I missed from Firefox was AdBlock, but it only took me a little while to find a suitable replacement for IE that works just as well if not better. Obi-Wan Kenobi
I am running IE7 because I am a beta tester and I like it........the only prob I have with it is that every time I restart my pc, the "standard buttons" are missing from the toolbar (home, fav's, etc...) but it's no biggie....I just right-click, left-click, problem solved, and much faster surfing as far as I can tell.....but haven't compared IE7 to FF yet, as I have been trying to make Vista break......(I am a legit Vista tester dual-booting XP Home and Vista). :D
