Go to: 34 54 19 N 117 53 01 W Edit: Uploaded the pictures to the site as opposed to linking them... Look at the size of the plane compared to the runway. ring0 Posted June 29, 2005 Share Posted June 29, 2005 the edwards runway is the second/backup one that can be used for shuttle landings when weather conditions in florida don't permit a landing at the main site. jets can reverse their engines to help slow them down, but since the shuttle doesn't have those kind of engines, it has to rely on wheel breaks, gravity and parachutes to slow down... so it needs a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge runway to come to a stop. now you know. *cue cheesy music* Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It looks like something was there (or is there) but now isn't; like it left indentations in the earth. I don't think that image is simply mounded up areas to hide vehicles. I seriously doubt the US military worries about radar detection, anything caught in US airspace that isn't authorized would be shot to hell. And yes, I am naive enough to think no other country has technology to where they can fly all the way over here and do some radar recon missions.
