[Guide]Making Firefox look and sound like IE.

This is a cool and very well written guide. I bet you could fool nearly anyone, with the right additional extensions, into thinking they were using actual IE. However, there are a couple changes that would need made for it to be "perfect".

I know you can add the Favorites menu to Firefox with an extension. However, is there any way to either hide the Bookmarks menu or simply keep it and rename it to Favorites?

The 2nd thing is the toolbar button still says Bookmarks. Is there any way to either rename that button to say Favorites or to remove it and put an IE favorites button in its place?

No, they aren't. Look carefully at what I mentioned. Perhaps I should have said it more clearly.

The 1st is in regards to the menu entry at the top, where you have File, Edit, Go, Bookmarks, Tools, Help, and Favorites if you use the extension to add it there.

The 2nd is in regard to the toolbar with buttons, like back, forward, stop, refresh, home, search, bookmarks, etc. I'm trying to figure out a way to either hide both instances of "bookmarks" or a way to rename them both to say "favorites" instead. With that, I think this guide would be a nearly perfect replication of IE for Firefox.

As I mentioned above, a couple additional extensions would be needed, like the one to change titlebar text to say Microsoft Internet Explorer, instead of Mozilla Firefox. The inline autocomplete extension for the address bar, and the image toolbar, but those are just nit picky refinements to make it near "perfect".

As long as there is a toolbar button that says bookmarks instead of favorites, and as long as their is a drop down menu for Bookmarks, then it throws off a lot of the "look" if your going for a true IE looking clone in Firefox. I know you can customize the toolbar to remove the bookmarks button, but having nothing there throws off the "look" as much as keeping it, I think.

Im pretty sure I should be able to achieve the things your suggesting here, but right now I havent got time to add them, just watch this space for the time being.

Thanks for the feeback. I'm hoping my response doesn't come across as rude. You wrote a very good guide, and its a near perfect copy of IE in Firefox. I appreciate all the effort you made in putting it together and sharing it with us here. Those 2 things I mentioned were just nit picky issues, and I was just curious if anyone knew a semi easy way of accomplishing them. I look forward to seeing if they ever get added to the guide.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I just tried to do this guide and the site is down! Does anyone have the files used in this guide they could email me or mirror temporarily?

I need the IEXP skin, the buttonpack and the XP Windows Styles extension if anyone is willing to mirror it or email it to me. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I did come here wondering why you'd want to do that but I will probably do it on PCs I set up for people, they'll never know  Bahahahaa!!

Hey Sherlock- all they have to do is look up at the top left of the window! it says, and I quote, "Mozilla Firefox"! So I think they will find out sooner or later! :D

I better go do this to my parents computers, they hate FF for some reason. ah well. I'll make them like it!

If anyone is interested the can download mozbackup with my backup here: http://d.turboupload.com/d/1007715/MozBackup.zip.html

this contains mozbackup( a firefox profile backup utility),my profile and an icon extention that couldn't be included in the profile. this has bamm's stuff plus a few more edits(removing the "go" menu, title bar changed to IE,etc....)

CAUTION! this should only be used by someone that is a new firefox user as your old profile will be changed by mine!
