jerry
Holy ****, Flintoff owning Brett Lee. :o edit: Warne gets the same treatment. edit2: More owning of Lee, this is Lee's worst mauling EVER. Edited August 4, 2005 by jerry Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/346792-cricket-ashes-2005-thread/page/2/#findComment-586324620 Share on other sites

jerry
Australia fight back with 3 wickets after Tea. Lee just got hit for consecutive six & four by Steve Harmison. Definitely Lee's worst performance in a test ever. jerry
England won by 2 runs, well deserved. One of the best test matches of all time. All predictions by Australian players have gone out of the window as series is tied 1-1 now. All over for Australia as last wicket falls. This picture sums up the test match, England rejoice & Australia dissappointed. Flintoff congratulates a dissappointed Lee. "Game well played mate". Edited August 7, 2005 by jerry Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/346792-cricket-ashes-2005-thread/page/2/#findComment-586339516 Share on other sites
OrangeSoul
well jerry all predictions that england would win this game in 10 minutes also went out. Australia nearly staged the greatest comeback in Ashes history, they were 8 down with 107 runs to win and thier best batsman was a bowler (Shane Warne) who plays spin well but is bad against quicks and England were bowling all thier 4 quicks against him and lee , 2 runs short, really close, 1 more run and it would have been a draw. unlucky for Australia, Good luck for England Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/346792-cricket-ashes-2005-thread/page/2/#findComment-586341687 Share on other sites

All I'm saying is cricket is a very unpredictable game, even Bangladesh could whip Australia on a good day. ;) Hence I'm a firm believer that the match isnt over till the last ball is bowled. Like in the other match, when India got 262 and all bets were on India, for one moment did I think the same and look what happened. Just saying that its foolish to be cocky (like most Australian players) and trash talk a little too much. Who knows it might came back to bite them in their ass, like today. Also, this is a good example to the Australians that without McGrath, their bowling isnt spectacular. Take away Warne and they have lost all potency. Both these great bowlers are already over 35 years and might hang their cap after the next World Cup. Dont see any young and upcoming Australian quickie or spinner on the horizon. The difference between Australian cricketers and others is that they play professionaly, while most others dont. well you overstated mcrath not being there. Do you think england would have got Aussies out for 294 if they didnt have Harmison? Aussies adjusted in second innings and got England out for 198 to make a match of it Edited August 8, 2005 by OrangeSoul Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/346792-cricket-ashes-2005-thread/page/2/#findComment-586342917 Share on other sites

The difference between Australian cricketers and others is that they play professionaly, while most others dont. 586342917 How does that make sense ? Australian cricketers are cocky, you'd be foolish ignorant if you dont believe that. Just read up the newspapers and see the quote from them. Its one thing believing in yourself but its completely different thing if you believe you are invincible. well you overstated mcrath not being there. Do you think england would have got Aussies out for 294 if they didnt have Harmison? 586342917 I didnt overstate McGrath's importance. After 67 years has one team scored over 400 runs against Australia in one day of a test match. McGrath would either have picked up wickets and or might have kept it tight. Harmison took 2 wickets in the whole test match, its safe to assume England are not relying on him as Australia does on McGrath. Aussies adjusted in second innings and got England out for 198 to make a match of it 586342917 Its not a matter of "adjusting" but rather the fact that 90% or more occasions teams score less in their second innings. golazo
probably the greatest game of cricket i have ever seen, apart from the 1999 world cup semi final. but australia will still win the series, and whoever says the aussies rely on mcgrath is a fool. he has been injured lots of times and they still won. england just had the advantage of ricky pontings stupid decision of allowing england to bat first and some good knocks by their batsmen Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/346792-cricket-ashes-2005-thread/page/2/#findComment-586344280 Share on other sites

How humiliating is that Australia managing to save face at home. Again McGrath was injured and not playing then. Blaming Ricky Ponting's decision is looking for scapegoat. Wish people were more sensible than that. Australians failed with the bat, plain and simple. It was perfect batting track. All the commentators on Channel4 gave a "conservative" figure of 400-5 for Australia in 80 overs and Australia got bowled out for 300. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/346792-cricket-ashes-2005-thread/page/2/#findComment-586344302 Share on other sites

Powa
An awesome innings by England. But I was dissapointed by Hoggard I think who is playing as the Nightwatchman to go out in the last ball of the day. If Pieterson was in for longer then it would have been more promising for England on the run sheet.
