Some salient points:

1) No one will know what the actual released name will be until tomorrow at 6am PDT :p

2) Paul (Thurrott) is *very* well connected with people at Microsoft. If it's on his site, you can trust that it has a high-level of credibility

3) Microsoft has the finest PR & Advertizing agency in the world - ever heard of Waggner Edstrom (aka "Wagg-Ed")???

the guy who suggested the VI in vista and roman numeral VI and 2006 may be onto something. untill i read that post i had decided this was not the final name because the last 2 client versions used 2 letters to form the name ME and XP the server version will still be windows server 2007 no vista stuff ;)

I thnik MS are crazy  about this name, Longhorn is better than Vista, but what Vista is about ?

Think about it, if the new windows codename was vista, and then m$ decided to make the final name be windows longhorn, you'd all be pretty ****ed... when i first saw longhorn i was like... wtf... and then it grew on me, as vista will too.

Actually it's a great name (Y). This might interest the "Longhorn Lovers" - I've written an article about "Windows Vista" and what Vista means on my blog. Check out my blog post. - "What's in a name - Windows Vista"

When one hears ?Vista?, we look at each other and wonder why Microsoft chooses a name which we, users, can?t understand. We might remember the famous phrase said during movies - ?Astalavista, baby?  However, I?ve done a small amount of research with the word - ?Vista? and I have come with the following:

I dunno I hated the name when I first read this thread...but by the time I reached page 11...it kinda sounds OK

But in Sanskrit language Vishtha (notice 2 additional 'h') means **** :D

in any case Vista thru Windows sounds nice :pinch: ?

crossing my fingers for better name

VIsta....NT6...we're on to something here... :ninja:

The first thing that came to my mind was Arnold's "Hasta la Vista". That will cause an endless stream of jokes from the anti-microsoft fan-boys/girls.

That does not make a good impression of the big evolution which is supposed to be Windows 6.0
