Matt T
Looks nice - thanks for sharing. And the XP boot screen only supports 16-bit bitmaps, so yes, this is the best quality we can get. Jexel
i thought xp was independant of dos Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/348442-bootvista-boot-screen/#findComment-586262728 Share on other sites
Unimatrix Xero
this is just a theory here, but doesnt the bootscreen run in some kind of a dos app? if so then im guessing that the limitations of dos come into play, just a thoery :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/348442-bootvista-boot-screen/#findComment-586262721 Share on other sites
Unimatrix Xero
there is still a element of dos in XP as there is the CMD prompt Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/348442-bootvista-boot-screen/#findComment-586262733 Share on other sites
BoondockSaint
There is *no* DOS in XP, nor 2000, nor NT. The Command Prompt is merely a shell... The reason the boot screen has a low res/colour count is so that it can show on any computer, regardless of the display. Since the video driver is not loaded until Windows actually starts, there is nothing to show a high res mode. Intersect
stardock's BootSkin support a higher colour display http://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/ here is a link to some boot skins http://www.wincustomize.com/Skins.aspx?LibID=32 and the good thing about it is that the program used to skin is free. and there is no hacking of winxp system files.
