PSP Firmware 2.0 Released

Recommended Posts

man, how can you say homebrew sucks?  nes and snes are pretty much all fully playable.  same with gameboy color and genesis.  i haven't tried the others, but they are supposed to be pretty good too.  obviously they aren't perfect, but they definitely don't suck.

Agreed, one cannot knock homebrew. Homebrew alone will be the deciding factor if I ever get one of these toys.

Well, it's a sad story for my psp. We don't have a wireless system at our house because we have too many computers which can really cost a lot compared to direct cable connection. The town I live in, really has no public wi-fi spots, unless you can find somebody with a wireless connection at their house. So either way you look at it, some people are never going to be able to use this feature anyway.

we're talking about a wireless router here, cost about 20-40$

Hmm, I can't seem to find a wireless router on newegg for less than $38 (maybe I didn't search hard enough). You can check my prices on this one but 4 network cards at $20 adds up to about $120 to set up a network at my house. This is a little bit costly don't you think just to get my psp working wirelessly (I currently do not own a laptop).

when they figure out the encryption system or whatever....they will be able to create a hacked firmware...that can play homebrew and have never firmware features.

Regarding the future of homebrew:

Honestly, it doesnt look good. Most people who have 1.52 are upgrading to 2.0...which has even more security. This basically means that 75% of homebrew is coming from people who own psp 1.5's and 1.0's..since people with 2.0s can still dev with psp sdk and emulate their eboot with the psp emu for pc.

Basically, its my opinion that the "fresh blood" is slowing down pretty fast.

like homebrew on a PSP is really useful anyway... Homebrew really provides nothing but an extra tool to help emulater authers during the early stages of making an emulater.

How do you upgrade the US version to 2.0? I would assume it's possible because it was possible with 1.51 ect.

Many people have upgraded their US versions to 2.0 with the Japanese 2.0 update with no problems. Just recently Sony came back and say warning do not do this, wait for a proper US 2.0 download. You can still find the download on many psp information sites.

Odd BroChaos haven't heard anything like that yet, or maybe I haven't read far enough into some of the posts about it. Their are only 3 people that have psp's in the town that I live in and they are all US 1.5 :D. So no testing on my part will be done at the moment.

seriously, don't underestimate the homebrew.  homebrew provides a lot more to a lot more people than you think.

Like? Most homebrew I've read about on the PSP are emulators for older consoles, nothing to go gaga over, IMO, especially considering the $250 price tag of the PSP. If all most people cared about were the homebrew aspects of the PSP, spend the extra $50 to buy a low-end Dell X30 PDA @ 624 MHz that will run circles around the PSP, not to mention open most general file types and even allow people to check their e-mail, schedule appts, play streaming media, Word, Excel, etc.

I have nothing against homebrew on the PSP, but for what some people claim it to be, and that it's the only reason that they use their PSP, seems like a waste.

And its even more of a waste to get 2.00 just for the WAP or whatever cause thats like the only important thing, I don't think the Dell X30 has an analog stick and big buttons, plus the screen size is ****ty  .

You can buy a wireless router to replace your BEFSR41 and use it just for the PSP... They are not expensive.
