eh, maybe i'm just ignorant. but i'm sure it will look something similar since people have been ooh ahhing about the aero look forever.

Colors and final polish will be different. Somehow I don't see Microsoft shipping their OS with the default colors as black. But maybe...

I thought they where going to rewrite the entire OS? It looks like an XP upgrade. Even some of the icons are from XP which I hope they update later. Is Vista still based off of the NT4 kernel like Win2k and XP?

EVERYONE who has been invited will get access today. The "waves" of testers was referring to future invites.

"The big news, of course, regards when testers will be receiving access to Beta 1. Microsoft recently invited the first round of private testers into the Windows Vista beta, and many have emailed me, wondering when they'll get download access. Microsoft told me that technical beta testers, MSDN subscribers, and TechNet subscribers would all get access to Beta 1 starting today."

Nobody has it save for Microsoft's close partners.

The NDA was lifted after the official announcement today at 9:05 PDT allowing sites to release screenshots and other info about the beta 1 bits.
