Recommended Posts

It has done that for ages, not just the beta version, its one of the reasons I hate Quick Time.

When they figure out how to let people play 1080p h.264 video smoothly without needing insane system requirements

They should just use the ffmpeg source

MPlayer and VLC are far superior at even Apple's own h264 mov files

They will wait to bundle it with iTunes 5

And like I need iTunes FFS

Might as well test this version out with the HD content. So far, no success - besides WMV's HD content plays back just fine on this system. Do I see a problem here (and don't give me BS about standards, if any)

I suspect that there'll be nearly 10-15 previews before the final or just they give up and release Quicktime 8 and then shock all Mac users.

Paul Thurrot mentions in his blog that he bought for all 2 Mac & Windows Quciktime 7's and shows how "craptacular" Windows version of Quicktime 7 against CoolMacStyle :)

Paul found out that it was a setting problem. Not QT.

I got an error

Right near the end of the install, the following message appears:

Error 0402.Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTime.qt\DefaultIcon. Verify that you have sufficient acces to that key, or contact your support personnel

This annoyed me too because it wouldn't install QT 7 which is required by iTunes 5.

Here's what I did:

Run REGEDIT

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\

Delete every key (i.e. folder) with the word "QuickTime" in the front of it.

Now, reinstall.....

It should now work.

umm...I think if you downloaded iTune 5.0, the latest Quicktime for windows already come with it...but correct me if I'm wrong..

Thats when I actaully found out that they finally released it (final buiild).

You, sir, are absolutely, positively correct.

Yes you are, but QT7 doesn't give you the error message unless you try to install it on its own. The installation shows that it was successful, but you keep getting an error message saying that QT6.5 is installed and QT7 is required.

Delete those keys, and install QT7 or reinstall iTunes 5 to make it work.
