IndianPimp99
Well, it's just out luck. Rex Grossman broke his ankle during the Bears-Rams pre-season game and will be out for the year. Just when things were starting to look up. I don't want to label him injury prone like I'm sure a bunch of people and columnists will simply because they are all freak injuries. Torn ACL while playing, broken ankle by a DL in pre-season after the ball was gone. Just stinks is all. bigbluepride35
damn, who's their backup? 586369067 Chad Hutchinson. The man who lost out to Quincy Carter when he was with Dallas. Man poor Chicago fans lol. Lost Curry in the playoffs with the Bulls. The Cubbies are having their perennial injury issues and stuggling as the season nears its end. And now this too. One of the cockiest players I ever met in college too. Not as cocky as TO though. stncttr908 Veteran Posted August 13, 2005 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2005 You've still got Kyle Orton from Purdue who now gets moved to second on the depth chart, correct? mattmatik
damn, who's their backup? sucks for him...but he's overrated. didn't do jack for florida, and i know michigan spanked him twice. 586369067 *cough*BS*cough* You know I had to step in on this one. Rex did alot for Florida, he was 2nd in the Heisman race as a sophomore in 2001 losing to *drumroll* Eric Crouch. And he didn't lose to Michigan twice, he lost to them once because good ol' Zooker called a half-back option pass, making Grossman a receiver on the final drive of the game (the pass was intercepted, game over). The other bowl games he played in, they lost to Miami in 2000 when he and Brock Berlin shared playing time, and he destroyed Maryland in 2001 (20-28 248yds 4Tds 0Ints). I think it's fairly safe to say that when Zook came in after Spurrier in 2002, Zook pretty much destroyed Rex's college career. Anyway, I hope he gets back from this injury and still has his physical abilities. He never had a serious injury at Florida, which is making this all the more surprising and tough to watch. Yeah, he may be a little cocky, but the kid knows his abilities and knows he can play the game. With Muhsin Muhammed now on the Bears it would have been interesting to see how he would have done with a quality deep threat at receiver. IndianPimp99
Yeah, I'm going to agree with soloredd on that. I wouldn't call him so much cocky as he is confident. I met him once at a restaurant and he seemed like a pretty laid back guy. While the injury stinks, it was a freak injury suffered on a play. For the Bears fans around, what bugs me more is Cedric Benson's holdout. He's 1 of only 4 first rounders still not playing and seriously with the way Thomas Jones performed last year (remember the defenses stacked the box as soon as Grossman went down because the QBs were Jonathan Quinn and Craig Krenzel) I wish Angelo had gone with Jones and drafted Mike Williams. Oh well, we'll see how it goes in 3 years. He's a damn good running back, especially built for the NFL, but the Bears needed receivers (still do, actually). I guess Lovie Smith's desire for defense-first and grinding the clock on offense is why they did go with Benson...but you still need one great receiver and another who can break coverages when the go-to guy is being doubled. That #12 looks pretty good, I think he had 130 yards in the first pre-season game. Is he going to be signed, do you know? kars85
I've been a diehard Bears fan my whole life. After hearing about Grossman's broken ankle, I wasn't too surprised. Last year's injury, after looking at the replay over and over, looked like a joke. Grossman encountered nothing that would've caused a torn ligament (that is unless it was a fluke). The Bears need to get someone in there who'll step up and grow some balls (remember Jim McMahon?). I don't get the Benson decision either. Thomas Jones proved himself quite well last year. IMHO the bears haven't picked a quality #1 in 10 years except Urlacher. IndianPimp99
off topic- indians are pimps? 586372566 They can be, it's a nickname I picked up in high school That #12 looks pretty good, I think he had 130 yards in the first pre-season game. Is he going to be signed, do you know? 586372597 Number 12 is Justin Gage but I think you might mean #16 Mark Bradley. They took him in the 2nd round and he's signed for 5 years, pending any future hold outs that is. I've been a diehard Bears fan my whole life. After hearing about Grossman's broken ankle, I wasn't too surprised. Last year's injury, after looking at the replay over and over, looked like a joke. This years injury really was crap luck. Watching it I knew it was bad and you could see Grossman was p. off. While I won't really argue the draft history I will note that Tommie Harris looked pretty good last year and apparently looks better this year. And in that Urlacher draft they also got Mike Brown in the 2nd round. Not a #1 but he's played better than most 1st rounders.
