sanctified Veteran Posted January 16, 2006 Veteran Share Posted January 16, 2006 i see sanctified's reading this. and no one's commented on big ben's play. i can't say much, since i didn't turn the game on until like 8 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. but thats a big win for only a second year guy. I am just going to say this: We knew that someone in this game was going to teach us how to pass... And that happened. The thing is that we expected that man to be Manning. Wrong! It was Ben. Big Ben is bigger now! Where is your little brother Peyton?
imtoomuch
Credit that win to the Steeler's D not Ben. Ben's still overrated. If the Steelers can't beat Denver, they have some serious problems. Jake The Suck doesn't stand a chance against the Steeler's D IMO. All of the teams who were picked to win in the playoffs this weekend, except for the Seahawks, choked. It's amazing. I think it's gonna be a pretty crapp Superbowl. I just hope the NFC wins.

His mobility in the pocket is insane for his size, not to mention he throws the ball just as good if not better while on the run. He also completely outperformed Manning in the first half. Overrated? One of them is. Any 6 teams in the AFC playoff division could stomp the NFC's picks. It will be a crappy superbowl because the AFC is far better. Ben has one average game against the Colts, and the Steelers win because their defense shut down Indy, and suddenly he's better than Payton Manning? Nobody, with any ounce of football knowledge, in their right mind would say Ben is better than Payton because it's just not true. And for the record, I don't like Payton Manning (so that you don't try to say I'm defending Payton because I'm a fan).

He just played better than Manning in that specific game. Still I dont think that Big Ben is totally overrated because, despite not having crazy numbers, he is effective. He rarely gets intercepted and his completion % is ratter high. The steelers?cornerstone is their running game, but when they pass they know Roethlisberger is extremely effective at it and we cant say the same thing about many QB?s in history (including the truly overrated Michael Vick)
Gfunk4life
including the truly overrated Michael Vick lol, over rated well he has a winning record, M Vick is the most underrated Qb(well all QBs are overrate because a team wins)(well most running QB are underrated)(but i will agree he is overrate)

Steffan
Pete Morelli, who over turn the interception call in the Colts/Steelers game, had his house vandalized late Monday night. There was a rock that was thrown at a window at his house. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5257526  there's no reason for that.
BroChaos Veteran Posted January 19, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2006 damn, that sucks. i just hope it was an honest mistake....if there was anything else behind it, then he deserves. reminds me of that 1st base ump at some world series game....i think he cost KC the series or something like that. I dont think it was intentional, but indeed that game was full of odd calls against pitt so I dont blame Porter or any Steelers fan for thinking otherwise. Put Big Ben on a team with a struggling receiving corps that isn't as reliable as the one he has now and then lets see what he can do. I think great QBs are the ones who can have a poor to medicore offense surrounding him and be able to make it look spectacular. Also QBs that can put the fear of God in other teams. Look at Brett Favre, no team ever wants to play against him because they know even with the worst receivers or offense he still is a threat to make something hapen. I don't see the same thing in Big Ben however, he is a decent QB, but nothing spectacular. I equate him to be the Marc Bulger of the Steelers, he is reliable and will get the job done, but he is never going to be a top tier QB. BroChaos Veteran Posted January 20, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted January 20, 2006 thats pure speculation though. lets stick with the facts: manning + potent colts offense vs. ben + potent steelers offense. ben won. thats all i care about. If Ben doesn't win the Super Bowl that would put him on the same level as Payton, which means their efforts this season and postseason were both in vain. Perhaps in the future when the Steelers play the Colts more times with Ben vs. Payton would put the two in a better perspective. But if you go by stats alone, Payton is clearly on a level above Ben even if you want to compare first two seasons of Payton vs. first two seasons of Ben. BroChaos Veteran Posted January 22, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted January 22, 2006 i'm sorry, but right now ben is just unstoppable. i missed the majority of the game last week, but watching him now, is amazing. he is putting balls where only his guy can get it, right in between defenders. nice crisp accurate throws. lets see if he can continue. sanctified Veteran Posted January 22, 2006 Veteran Share Posted January 22, 2006 Two TD?s, almost 200 yards, rating above 140 points and its just the first half... Who said Big Ben is not that good?

AJerman
Well it looks like Denver gave it one last shove, but after missing that 4th down conversion it's all but over for them. That'll make my first pick of the weekend right, now onto the game I've been waiting for.
BroChaos Veteran Posted January 22, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted January 22, 2006 as of right now, big ben is the new tom brady. smart, composed, accurate, effective, no mistakes, no turnovers. i LOVE that kind of qb. screw huge numbers, just win the game. AJerman
Well that was a sad showing of Carolina. They have struggled with consistancy all year, and I thought being in the playoffs was going to keep them on track but that inconsistancy showed today. Oh well, maybe next year.
