Rob2687
Is anyone getting high CPU usage when you're dragging windows?
DomFel
yea seriously, how much ram do you have to be running 79 processes? and pagefile setting? 586396205 2gb ddr2 (it's a laptop).
eNeon
do you mean objectbar or objectdock? ObjectDock murders my games, so I launch them from a batch file that shuts down object dock, runs my game, and then restarts OD once the game is exited. 586398709 I mean Objectbar. -Hiroshi-
I mean Objectbar. 586401119 I remember only needing to use objectbar to get the "Windows Whistler" look, back in '00, or that Mac OS-X look on Windows 2000..
vf-
Also remember that with any skin, WB or msstyle, the more gfx intense it, the memory it will use.So say the theme I use, extensis, which is a nice minimal theme only takes about 440K. But when you load a gfx intense theme such KoL's 5203 longhorn or the MyHomestead theme it will cause wbload to go up. In the grand scheme of things though wbload at 2.5 MB is still very low compared to the default XP engine that can take aware from 5-15 depending on the persons computer setup. What I don't get is why people fret over 2MB anyways when most computers come standard now with 512. Also hyperpaint only works on gfx cards that support hardware acceleration. On my old laptop, the p3 700 doesn't support hyperpaint, but I don't get a performane hit at all. 586398838 Just as an example, I had a personal port of Alunamin for WB and it only uses 404kb or most of the time but thats mainly due to things like the majority of the skin is bitmap. Memory and slowdowns creeps up with lots of things I've found if there is lots of streching in the skin or *.TGA used in places where it doesn't need to but thats down to the skinner not WindowBlinds. I don't understand why people are whining over 2mb either... you never see these sort of conversations of people bitching at games taking 600 or so MB or the likes of Photoshop. Memory isn't meant to look pretty while we all brag how much memory we have free! The sad thing is I cannot believe to this day people are still whining about memory problems like the times of 2000/01, it feels like groundhog day. Oh noes I just used 2% CPU while typing this PANIC PANIC! :p Too many freakin posers with this memory subject :) You know to this day I don't think I've ran hyperpaint... oh wait I did once on a GeForce3. I just haven't run it since then but it never slows me down nor in Photoshop. Edited August 19, 2005 by V_F

It helps a lot! :) I couldn't say anything about gaming though... I don't use WB on my desktop computer.

Frogboy Administrators Posted August 21, 2005 Administrators Share Posted August 21, 2005 Well I am biased of course but my main day job is working on games and we all run WindowBlinds full-time. http://www.galciv2.com is what we're currently working on. If WB slowed down our computers, we wouldn't be running it. We need every cycle we can get, especially when debugging. I don't run msstyles anymore because I do notice the speed it with them, particularly on resize.
Neksus
I must say that using WindowBlinds themes does NOT slow down my system! Not one bit! I have these Stardock apps running without it hitting my game performance: Natural Desktop ObjectDockPlus WindowBlinds 3 different DesktopX widgets CursorXP

Its blacked out and won't let me checkmark the box. Anyone got any clue?
Meshuggah
Well first time I get to say this, but it's true.... WB 4.6 is faster than .msstyles Using 1,280k although it doesnt matter to me, with Hyperpaint enabled fully it's running great. Not to mention I'm using KoL's theme with his glow effects.... :D for once I gotta admit....it's better
