Google Talk website OPEN!

I'm having a problem with this.

Every time I try to sign in, I get an authentication error, even though I was signed in to it earlier with no problem. I can't figure out what the issue would be.

EDIT: I can log-in using Gaim, but not with Google Talk. I tried re-installing (including deleting any registry entries) with no luck.

I don't think emoticons are really needed... they are already a different colour and it would be too easy for them to be a distraction/bloat - minimalist emoticons could work, but anything like the MSN style would be awful for GTalk.

I would like it if an email wasn't sent each time you invite someone. Also, bold and italic text would be nice, though I feel colours would be too much. One of the things I like about it so far is how little bloat there is and how they haven't tried to throw in everything and the kitchen sink.

Place _ _ around you text to make it italic and * * around your text to make it bold.

lol, thanks I didn't know that. Well, that's one feature off the to-do list, though it would be nice if the interface would reflect that ability.

I've been getting that since yesterday. See here.

Wow this is terrible! First and foremost; don't get my wrong I love:

1. Google Search

2. Gmail

3. Picasa

4. Blogger

5. Google Earth

This is crap. It is only for Gmail users?! None of my friends have a clue what Gmail is! I was really hoping for AIM interoperability. This doens't even seem like an IM client. I guess it isn't really. I guess I just pegged it wrong from the start. This is not an alternative to AIM or MSN. The interface is gorgeously simple, but what you see is what you get. I know this is a beta, but I can't see this getting much different.

I really don't see the need for this. If you wanna IM, use AIM or MSN. If you want to talk (voice) to friends, use AIM, MSN, or a VOIP service. Google Talk seems like an akward go-between.

I certainly can't see merely getting friends to sign up for a new IM client that is no better than AIM, but furthermore getting them to sign up for Gmail? Pfft.

I was really looking forward to this, I guess I was just expecting a different product.

They said something along the lines of google talk would work with other services as long as the people who provided the other services would be willing to cooperate.

Cool program. It's a shame i have no one to talk to at the moment :'(. Someone add me ellianth@gmail.com (it's my birthday in 3 days this could be your present to me :D )

Edit: Quote from talk.google.com -

" What new features are you working on?

We could tell you, but then you'd have to promise to not talk about it... Joking aside, Google Talk is still in beta, and we're working hard to add features and make improvements. We're just not quite ready yet to reveal the other cool things we've got planned. We can say this, though: we believe strongly in user choice and open standards, and we are committed to letting users access Google Talk using the client and platform of their choice, as well as to enabling our users to talk with users from other service providers."

i like it and all.. but i find myself with WAY less friends on it... only people who understand computers use google talk... it might catch on later.. or die like eXeem.

i got 200+ people on MSN.. and like 2 on google talk.. im not gonna bother switching. plus it looks like MSN 1.1... wheres the options! and the features..

I like how clean it is, as msn was getting a little cluttered with all the features (switched to trillian a month ago). it also uses almost no memory :)

I dunno if this has been mentioned, but the VoIP function is _really_ clear, and super fast....much better than skype, msn's voicechat, ventrillo or any other VoIP I have used.
