ev0|
you aren't going to have anything that emulates the genie effect very nicely until vista becasue xp just doesn't have the graphics foundation to do effects like that glitch free. Vista will probably have similar effects built in tho. stadsport
Probably because the way it comes out of the dock is similar to how a genie comes out of a lamp? HelgenX
No, let's go back to that Genie Effect. Now I'm highly curious if there's a dock that has that, and holding shift doesn't do that. Apple is money hungry, and jealous that a little Japanese kid could emulate their "unique" dock in such little time. NetGX
Yes there is a dock that has something similiar to the genie effect... It's called rklauncher http://home.cogeco.ca/~raduking/ have fun edit: looks like it's already been talked about Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/364623-why-is-objectdock-legal-but-yz-dock-is-not/page/2/#findComment-586446483 Share on other sites

Brandon Live Veteran Posted August 29, 2005 Veteran Share Posted August 29, 2005 Stardock's "ObjectDock" program is based on their original Tab Launchpad application, we predates Apple's "dock" by several years. IMHO... Apple would have to be very cautious about provoking Stardock legally, as they may find themselves paying royalties to Stardock. The only problem comes about when you run another hardware-accelerated app. At least with Nvidia's drivers, the driver will stop accelerating WindowFX (or any other app, including Nvidia's own nView features). Vista will remove that limitation. Can anyone explain this to me? 586442174 It was supposedly because Y'z dock perfectly emulated the animation/zoom effect of the Apple dock. It has absolutely nothing to do with Y'z having the genie effect because Y'z Dock does not have the genie effect. It seems to me that some people on this site like making up stories or acting like they are knowledgable about something that they're obviously not and they state false or erroneous information. It was Apple Japan that supposedly contacted the author of Y'z dock since he was Japanese (if I remember correctly). The other dock authors are not Japanese as far as I know. Try RK Launcher. It is the best dock out there and it is very similar to Y'z Dock. Oompa said: That's a LAUNCHER not a dock. ;) 586443823 It's a dock. All docks are launchers. stadsport
RK Launcher takes up almost 4 times as much memory as other docks, and it lags when you first mouse-over. Mike Frett
stadsport, I just used beta .04 and I never got any lag...everythings smooth except the genie effect when you minimize large windows, small windows are fine. I have found the opposite. Image proof attached below. Plus, I never have experienced any "lag" with RK Launcher. thagame
i know its not a primo dock but rocketdock is bomb and free. i have it on my sisters 550mhz laptop and it runs with no lag at all. its a nice fast dock that uses next to no resources. Clinteger
Aqua Dock is an exact copy of Y'z Dock, especially considering it has this in the readme file: Quote Adding Docklets********************* There are no docklets available, but they can be downloaded from http://www.yzdocklets.com (Aqua Dock supports YzDock Docklets) 1. Right click on the dock and click on Add Docklet 2. Choose a docklet and click Add "Aqua Dock supports YzDock Docklets..." because it is Y'z Dock!!! All they did was tweak Y'z Dock a little   Even though I like Y'z Dock (a lot), Aqua Dock is horrible. They should be the ones with a legal suit for copyright infringement!! ViperSnake
Don't forget, ObjectDock is kinda simliar to XPde, it's made not to ship an OS X dock out of the box, but it can be made to make one, and I haven't seen OSX use Crystal or LaST icons or backgrounds by default on their dock eh?
