Why is ObjectDock legal but Y'z Dock is not?

you aren't going to have anything that emulates the genie effect very nicely until vista becasue xp just doesn't have the graphics foundation to do effects like that glitch free.

Vista will probably have similar effects built in tho.

I didnt even know it was called the genie effect until today and I worked at Apple for a year.

No, let's go back to that Genie Effect. Now I'm highly curious if there's a dock that has that, and holding shift doesn't do that. Apple is money hungry, and jealous that a little Japanese kid could emulate their "unique" dock in such little time.

You can do pretty close with Stardock's WindowFX... although it does not minimize them to the dock it does the same genie effect.

Oh truth, thanks, I forgot... but I wish it would directly go back to the dock you know? I remember using WindowFX... slow as **** lol.

Stardock's "ObjectDock" program is based on their original Tab Launchpad application, we predates Apple's "dock" by several years.

IMHO... Apple would have to be very cautious about provoking Stardock legally, as they may find themselves paying royalties to Stardock.

Y's Dock contained ripped OSX graphics, ObjectDock does not...

Ripped graphics???????

Yz Dock didnt ripped any graphics and the Dock from OSX doesnt have any graphic. They are colors and transparency.

Depends on your hardware and drivers. It performs quite well in the right configuration. The only problem comes about when you run another hardware-accelerated app. At least with Nvidia's drivers, the driver will stop accelerating WindowFX (or any other app, including Nvidia's own nView features). Vista will remove that limitation.

Both are docks, but ObjectDock is perfectly legal while Y'z Dock is not. Can anyone explain this to me?

It was supposedly because Y'z dock perfectly emulated the animation/zoom effect of the Apple dock. It has absolutely nothing to do with Y'z having the genie effect because Y'z Dock does not have the genie effect. It seems to me that some people on this site like making up stories or acting like they are knowledgable about something that they're obviously not and they state false or erroneous information. It was Apple Japan that supposedly contacted the author of Y'z dock since he was Japanese (if I remember correctly). The other dock authors are not Japanese as far as I know. Try RK Launcher. It is the best dock out there and it is very similar to Y'z Dock.

That's a LAUNCHER not a dock.  ;)

It's a dock. All docks are launchers. Unless the wink indicates you were kidding.

RK Launcher takes up almost 4 times as much memory as other docks, and it lags when you first mouse-over.

I'd have to disagree that RK Launcher "takes up almost 4 times as much memory as other docks". I have found the opposite. Image proof attached below. Plus, I never have experienced any "lag" with RK Launcher.

Aqua Dock is an exact copy of Y'z Dock, especially considering it has this in the readme file:

Adding Docklets

*********************

There are no docklets available, but they can be downloaded from

http://www.yzdocklets.com (Aqua Dock supports YzDock Docklets)

1. Right click on the dock and click on Add Docklet

2. Choose a docklet and click Add

"Aqua Dock supports YzDock Docklets..." because it is Y'z Dock!!!

All they did was tweak Y'z Dock a little

Even though I like Y'z Dock (a lot), Aqua Dock is horrible.

They should be the ones with a legal suit for copyright infringement!!

Actually yes it does, when you empty the in dock trash can there is a puff of smoke that is identical to the Apple dock, there is no question that he ripped that since it is a 1:1 duplicate and it is quite complexly animated there is no way he could have duplicated it so perfectly without ripping the resource.
