bvcmdk
I'm on ubuntu breezy and yesterdays clearlooks cairo in gnome cvs flat locks up my box  586537692 CorrectionFor nvidia Option "RenderAccel" "true" is the cause. If you disable this in xorg.conf clearlooks-cairo works, but that slows cairo down. For those on gnome2.12 w/ nvidia not using clearlooks cairo, I suggest, at your own risk, enabling Option "RenderAccel" "true" as it'll speed things up quite a bit. Well, it did for me. Clearlooks Cairo and Dropline Nuovo Icons exported to png and shadowed w/ the gimp....much nicer Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/366103-gnulinux-september-2005-desktops/page/5/#findComment-586547161 Share on other sites

bvcmdk
Thanks, does it overwrite the current clearlooks theme?Ben 586551921 Yes, if you use gnome cvs. I don't know (I would think it is) if the clearlooks cvs cairo module is up2date. It doesn't, at least it didn't last week.http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/clearlooks/ cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/clearlooks login [press Enter] cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/clearlooks co -P clearlooks-cairo You can still use clearlook 0.6.x engine color schemes but since the gtkrc's are diff some things are not draw correctly, but you have to really look to tell.....usually. also get the latest cairo from cvs as it is 10x faster than 1.0.0 cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.cairographics.org:/cvs/cairo login cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.cairographics.org:/cvs/cairo co cairo ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr make sudo make install Edited September 20, 2005 by bvcmdk Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/366103-gnulinux-september-2005-desktops/page/5/#findComment-586553017 Share on other sites

betamaxman
Suse 9.2 with Xscreensaver running in the background with the Matrix screensaver, the zooming OSX like dock at the bottom is ksmoothdock. I also have a Matrix logon but sadly could'nt find a Suse compatable bootsplash. Xscreensaver running screensavers in the background is cool and beats a simple jpeg hands down, The theme is bakura Metal. I want to try 3ddesktops next, has anyone got it running here? :alien: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/9694/mysystem800x7le.jpg * inline image changed to link, due to it being over thread-standard 800x600 pixels size * Edited September 21, 2005 by markjensen Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/366103-gnulinux-september-2005-desktops/page/5/#findComment-586556704 Share on other sites

theotherdave
Very nice. Can you install ksmoothdock via apt-get? If so, which repo do I need (can't find the package, but I don't have manyextra repos on my debian box). And how do you get xscreensaver running on your desktop..? markwolfe Veteran Posted September 21, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 21, 2005 I want to try 3ddesktops next, has anyone got it running here? :alien: 586556704 Yes I have it on my Fedora box (Flux as WM). It was cool eyecandy to play with, but I prefer to instantly switch desks, and not deal with the 3-D transitions. Once 3ddesktop is activated, it remains resident, and absolutely kills UT2k4. I only have an old nVidia GeForce 256 card with 32MB, so it doesn't have much horsepower to spare. (killing 3ddesktop frees my card back up for gaming) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/366103-gnulinux-september-2005-desktops/page/5/#findComment-586557367 Share on other sites

And how do you get xscreensaver running on your desktop..? 586557010 Not sure about apt-get depends on your sources file but I used the .deb from here and kpackage to install it you can get it here, be sure to place kicker to the top or side first, also you can get more icons from kdelook.org and Stardock's object dock has some great .png icons as well, especialy OSX ones. I store them in the /home/user/.ksmoothdock/icons folder that way if I need to reinstall Linux I can save this folder and repast it back to my home folder before installing ksmoothdock and settings and all are as they were. http://intranet.harlaut.net/debian/ksmoothdock/ To run xscreensaver with the glmatrix screensaver installed, you need kde and in the configure desktop settings you must check allow programs to run on the desktop. Then find out where xscreensaver is in your distro and simply create a script to run xscreensaver/glmatrix for Suse I run this script and then create a link to application and with the script in it and into the .kde/strat folder if you want it to start up with your next login. Also if you do use ksmoothdock and xscreensaver together you will need to create a solid black wallpaper in the gimp or in some other app. This is how it will look if you do not as ksmooth dock needs some desktop realistate around itself to work. This is the script i use with my Suse install it als has further arguments to use a sparse matrix streaming to use less resources the thicker the streaming the more resources that are used this puts my pc usage from 0 to 8% but uses little memory. The full glmatrix screensaver uses 20 to 30% resources. If xscreensaver and glmatrix is installed on your system in the same location as Suse this should work, if you use Mandrake or madriva it will not unless you install the full xscreensaver with glmatrix. /usr/lib/xscreensaver/glmatrix -root -density 4 -speed 8 -delay 21094 -no-fog -no-waves -no-rotate Again this will only work if xscreensaver is install ed to /user/lib if it is elseware it should work if you change /user/lib to where it is on your system. So just create a link to application call it glmatrix and under th application tab copy the script and past it into the command feild then run it. It will be gone after the next logon or reboot, if you want glmatrix permanitly you need to past the link into your /home/user/.kde/autostart folder.
