No Ads in ICQ 2001b

I've tried three of them, Miranda, Trillian and ICQ. IMHO, nothing beats the real thing - although Trillian could contest it when the ability to transfer files is incorporated.

As for an ad remover, I haven't found one yet. As soon as I do, it will be on my website ;)

Just a heads up, cracks sort of cross the line into becoming illegal. Please do not post any links or files to cracks here or explinations on how to remove them. I'm leaving the topic open however because this has turned into an altrernate client thread basically. Those are perfectly legal, at least to my knowledge...

So... beheave :) hehe

removing the ads in ICQ is a trivial matter...as a matter of fact...the instructions to remove these ads was actually posted on Neowin's front page at one time....LOL

Ciao....

well.. all us moderators and admins had a little discussion over this... it's basically a very grey area... and it's been decided that for now, instructions on how to remove ads will be allowed. However links to cracks that do it for you, will not be (as most are probably viruses anyway). If however, they come after neowin this decision of course will be changed. I removed the instructions based on my own judgement. While some agree and others disagree with that judgement, that's what we've come down to. I apologise for acting too harshly, too fast. :)

mcb, Mirabilis ICQ 2001b v.5.15 has NO ads at all! I checked it out last night! So if the ads bothered you in 2000b, then I recommend that you upgrade!

Sorry but I have ICQ 2001b build #3634 beta v.515 and it DOES too HAVE ads.

Can someone repost the directions how to remove them since the decision was made to allow that?

BTW over at www.techtv.com they give directions on how to disable the ads in AIM in case anyone is interested. They're under the show "the screensavers" section...

Weird thing about 2001b

i installed it on my work pc, running XP, over the top of 2001a which had been installed over a 2000b install that i had gotten rid of the ads from with ad-killer, and its still ad free now, even after the upgrades...

Now i installed it at home also running XP, over a 2000b install which had also had its ads removed (they really annoy the hell outta me) but it would crash every time i tried to get it to load.. so i had to uninstall (not removing any of my databases mind you..) and reinstall (this time it didnt think it was upgrading) and now it works but its got ads....

Well my ICQ 2001b build is #3633 (INITIAL RELEASE) and it has NO ads! You must've picked up a more recent build when Mirabilis Inc. suddenly re-inserted the ads! Therefore, I'm sticking to build 3633 while you fellows deal with the trouble yourselves! :D

NOTE : I used Neowin's mirror to download it!
