do you find that OS X runs OK with your configuration? i have an iMac G3 233MHz with 288MB ram and i'm thinking about getting OS X. would you recommend that or is it painstakingly slow on that old of a machine?

i am pertty much set on buying a mac, probably this week some time. if i do, i have decided to buy the eMac, but there is still part of me that would like to have that nice little iBook. the thing is i dont need a laptop at all.

can anyone come up with a good reason for me to get the ibook over the eMac? the iBook is only a g3.

i do already have a kick ass pc with a 19" perfectflat

PowerMac 7200 with a PowerMac 7600 Logic Board

coming soon:

Sonnet Tech 800MHz G4 Upgrade Card

Sonnet Tech Tango Trio (FireWire, USB2, and ATA133)

Some ATI Graphics Card (Not Sure Yet)

Best part... It will cost less than any new mac, including those CRT ones...

:)

Hey Bling how much is the SonnetTech upgrade? I upgraded my 7100 with a NewerTech Maxpowr a few years ago and it still runs great. It's too bad NewerTech went out of business though as I think they made good upgrades. I'm still considering a Crescendo 400mhz for my 7100, it still has some life in it yet. :)

Isn't that pretty close to what Timan is using? You might ask him about the performance. Aside from being very RAM hungry, OSX benefits from a videocard with at least 16 VRAM. Does your iMac use the 8 or 16 meg vid ?

I don't have a Mac, but i really want the new iMacs. 17" with 800mhz and GF4 MX. Do the Macs video cards run the same as the Pcs video card, like is a GF4 for a Mac the same as for a pc? One day i'll be owning a Mac, and i hope it's gonna be very soon:D .

It's the same card, but of course it uses a different driver. Not sure if the current drivers are as optimised as the ones used for PC's.

The cards use different firmwares too. I guess it's cause of the different processor architectures.

They are flashable though. Users at macnn bought the PC version of the Radeon 8500 and flashed it and it works fine on their powermacs.
