I just have to add in the whole "OMG Vista is just a beta you noob" post here. Seriously, look how much any windows installation changes over the course of its birthing into finality. I'm sure the installer for Vista will be much better, although I'm also sure that like all other versions of Windows, no, it will not be perfect.

i agree with you that vista is only in beta stage, but irregardless of that fact, the choices offered to you in the final version will be decided by Microsoft and not you. It seems to me that Windows is certaintly making installation easier but at the same time it is removing choice, and to me, choice is good.

and as regards being a noob, you are dead right ! i'm a noob and proud of it, both windows and linux

No distro is ever "Final", so I suppose I can see the comparison.

I would consider commercial releases final.

When/If Fedora technology is implemented in Redhat, then perhaps it can be compared to the release of Vista. But as it stands now, I'd consider them both in development, thus, a fair comparison.

Eh...sorta...but it's a different sort of "final" than the Windows version of "final". You can download...lets say, slackware 10.1 final the day it is released, then the next day there will be a new branch of "slackware-current", and that will go on every 6 months. It's in constant state of developement that is unlike the Windows model. In a lot of ways it reminds me of what Apple is doing with OS X...only they charge $120 for each new revision and name it after a kitty cat.

that actually convinced me to use vista. next time you wanna compare using linux use a real distro not this fedora and noobuntu crap.

Seriously, just because you aren't a n00b at linux doesn't mean that others can't use it. Ubuntu actually works at setting up all my hardware and doesn't wast my time. I have a daylife and don't need to spend hours setting up my network card (hint fedora, which is a lot better than redhat). I get annoyed with people like you thinking everyone is computer literate. Makes noobies at this give up faster. Thank you Linux nerds.
