Bloatware = Resource consuming beyond reason for what it does.

I decided ide rather have a nice clean fast runnign system than a very pretty looking system, but running laggyer.

What spec is your system?

Its decent.

athlon 64 3800+ venice

asus a8n-sli

2gb corsair xms pc3200 2-2-2 in dual channel

2x gainward 6800u in SLI

2 x wd raptors in raid 0 for boot and 1x 300gb seagate baracuda for storage.

It is certainly good enogh to run this software, and personaly I notice the difference, Ide rather keep the resources for gaming and dvd encoding etc that i do.

I do use objectdock ,and I like that and it causes me no grief, but then that isnt even part of object desktop.

Well I'm not going to argue but for someone with a system so much better than what I have and is bitching about resources you make it sound like your not even running a 1Ghz CPU or 256/512MB mem and you would be using Windows9X.

Oh man 2Gig of memory you have, deary me you have more memory than what most gamers have. It really makes me chuckle how you can complain about WB, WFX, IP and so on slowing you down.

Its the same crap over and over sadly about resources. I have never experienced slowdowns with WB4X 5X that is ofcourse you run constant animated themes it will hinder the graphics card/cpu.

I still can't believe to this day people are whining about Stardock software being bloated, that talk is so 2000/01.

fair play if you liek all that stuff on your system, I was attracted to it at first, i took the bait and bought it, and fair play, its all very pretty etc, but meh, its not worth it.

btw "Well I'm not going to argue but " your whole post is argueing

yes I have more ram than most gamers, becasue I am a gamer, although i do use my PC for browsing/email and other general stuff.

When is the offical release date of the final? Any approximations? This month? Next month? I want to sample it first before actually subscribing to Object Desktop. Also I can't wait for WindowFX 2.5. That new ALT+TAB menu looks awesome and also the thumbnail preview on the taskbar. Looks like no one will be excited about Vista with all Vista features coming to XP from Stardock.

To Inertia:

Dude, I don't believe that you notice a difference... I mean, if you have all programs running atthe same time.. MAYBE.

But seriously, it's been debated on this board whether Windowblinds is a resource-hog or not, and it's pretty much been concluded that it isn't. Plus, from what I hear, the new version 5 uses even less resources than previous reasons, making your bloatware comment null.

Also, skinstudio, iconpackager, icon developer, etc. aren't even running unless you're using them. Iconpackager is a damn fine icon editor, that doesn't use much resources when it's running, but it's ONLY running when you're switching out icons. These programs are #1 not bloatware.. they're quite minimalistic in their interfaces, and #2 not even running in the background, thus not slowing down your computer.

Yeah, WindowFX is a toss-up. I personally don't use it now, because I feel that shadows (the only thing it can do now that I really like) aren't worth the resources it uses (of course, Y'z Shadow and the likes don't do any better)... but when 2.5 comes out, and it has the new features, I'll reconsider. As for DesktopX, it's not bloatware either. It uses about the same amount of resources as any widget app. Never tried right-click, so I have no opinion...

But yeah, your claim that OD is a load of bloatware is COMPLETELY false. I'm sorry that you're personally unhappy with your purchase, but for all of the best skinning apps out in one package for $50... heh.. you got a good deal nonetheless, so stop whining.

edit: and another thing, your machine could run laps around my machine. AMD Athlon 2500+, NVidia 6600, 1 Gig RAM... and I use windowblinds, skinstudio, iconpackager, icon developer, and objectdock (yeah, I know, not OD), yet there's no performance decrease in my machine. So, in short... I don't believe you.

That's great that you don't believe him but I don't see why it matters if you do or not and I see no reason for him to lie. I refused to use wb because, up until 4.6, I noticed it was slower than msstyles for me. I didn't care who believed me or not. I used what was best for me as I'm sure he's doing. I could just as easily say I don't believe that you don't notice a decrease in performance.

LOL... I'd rather use the real thing than some bull**** from StarDick... :)

Well that's a post that definitely contributes a lot to these forums

In the end, SD is going to capitalize on the desire for eye candy now. Should you stick with XP because of it? No, but it will hold people over for now and will hopefully stop a few from illegally downloading a leaked beta of Vista and completely destroying their machines.

You're welcome.

I'm using the leaked Vista build and my machine is nowhere near destroyed. I've tried WindowBlinds at 2.x, 3.x, 4.x, can't try 5 because of OD and that it is beta, but every time I've tried it I got the feeling that something is tacked on instead of being smooth.

I wasn't talking about people like you who may know what they are doing. However, you also can't judge the book until you've read it. Just because the past 4 versions haven't met your needs doesn't mean this one won't. Coming into a thread about software you haven't used and insulting the company that is putting it out is kind of lame.

I'm damn sure that version 5 will be as useless to me as the others. I'm happy with Watercolor right now on XP, and Aero Glass on Vista.

but i'd bet my left arm that if windowblinds was free, you'd love it. it seems most animosity towards StardOck stems from their apps not being freeware. if the apps were free, i'm sure you and others would be raving about WB
