It's a launcher replacement app called LauncherPro and can be found on the Market!

Custom roms add way more features and improve battery/performance as well as overclocking abilities (Desires running at 1.2GHz are not uncommon for example with improved battery life thrown in).

Looks really great, but from what I've read, it has problems with HTC widgets and getting Handcent SMS as default for its message shortcut. I think I'll wait till they fix those issues until I get it. Sense UI is good, but I like change lol.

ONLY the HTC SenseUI launcher can use HTC widgets, this is not a launcher pro issue so if you want to use a non senseui launcher you must get used to not using htc widgets. Besides they're not all that useful anyway especially as friendstream/facebook often stop working for hours on end or stop syncing.

The messaging icon issue is resolved now with custom icons in the dock. I suggest you use sources a little more updated in future!

I have non of those problems you just listed. All my widgets act as they should. No friendstream on hero 2.1, so already at a loss there anyway lol.

Was reading post on androidforums.com, or whatever the main android forum website is.

Looks nice.

I'm giving LauncherPro a try. Is there a way to make it so it only boots up into launcherpro during its start up, or will I always have to choose it from the menu or home button?

Using this unloads sensui and other aspects from what I was using before , correct?

It does seem faster, and I'm liking the animated windows for everything. Apparently a new update today just fixed the linking of messenger and handcent, so the lack of a clock and battery feature are not too annoying yet, as I'm sure Ill find a replacement soon.

If you've ticked it to use LauncherPro as default then it will always load including when the phone boots.

Awesome, wasn't sure, but was thinking that may do it.

So far so good. Would it probably do good to go back into senseui and uninstall the widgets I wont be using anymore? What are some recommended widgets for this that are good for this?

Also, what if I want to disable launcherpro and start using senseui for a bit. How can I switch inbetween the 2 when already in launcherpro?

If LauncherPro has been set as default go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications

Select LauncherPro and then hit 'Clear defaults' button in the application info window for it.

Then press home button again, it'll ask you which launcher to use.

I can't find this app in the market at all. They all lead to 'not found' is there another source? Their website also doesn't link to an alternative download. I'd really like to try this out.

What version of android are you running. I figure it will only show in market in 2.1+ A search for LauncherPro should find it. Think its in market as 'LauncherPro Beta'. Not sure about alternative download location

That would be the kicker, as I'm not running 2.1. I'm still on 1.6 :(

Maybe it's time to root, and theme away

is there a battery status widget that doesn't drain the battery lol, a couple i have found seem to like to run constantly... that or its only because the shortcut to view running processes is on the same page as the battery status widget lol.

Also, anyway to easily replace the default HTC Hero lock screen with one like the custom rom agonite has?

I am using one called 'Battery Life' at the moment. I haven't checked its CPU usage or anything, but it doesn't seem to show any significant battery drain. It takes up a 2x1 space on the launcher however, but it can show temperature and voltages, along with the percentage.

If you are using HTC Sense, HTC also have a battery widget under 'Download More' in the HTC Widgets list. Not sure which version of Sense you need for that though.

Where did you get the wallpaper, if you don't mind me asking.

Actually, I decided not to use a widget for battery life detection, as it is just something extra to take up memory and whatnot. I got a app called AnyCut, that allows you to make a shortcut out of almost anything on your phone. So I just made a shortcut to my battery info option, which already displays the percent left, temp, and all the other info. Of course, I have to press the shortcut, but it goes off of the phones actual information, not some widget.

Still on the ropes with LauncherPro. Trying to determine if it kills the battery faster than senseui or not. As of today, I'm already at 56% with it being unplugged for roughly 7 hours, and medium to heavy use... so not too bad at the moment. Some text, calls, youtube watching, facebook updating and browsing, and some other stuff being done on it. I do love the speed it puts out though in the regular desktop though.

Is there anything that can make the text on the OS a little more unison? I dislike how some of the icons text will go off the grid, when there could be room if it just doubled down or something....

The text issue is down to how the developer creates the icons for it, the text is just in line with that really.

LauncherPro (or any launcher for that matter) uses no more or less battery than SenseUI. I don't really know why people keep worrying about battery life in relation to this kind of app.

I've had things just drain battery life insanely fast. Thought right now, im still at 46%, with moderate use. I'd say it's about the same if not less of a drain than SenseUI. Maybe due to me not using as many widgets as before.

I always worry about battery life, just because I use the phone so much during my work day, for it to go out would be a big inconvenience. So I try and make sure that what I'm using will allow me a easy 8 hours of battery life.

What wallpaper is that? it's very very nice.

If you're asking about the ones in my HD2 shots, I think I 'borrowed' them from this thread @ xda-developers...

HTH!

If anyone wants these I'll post them up somewhere for you. When I went back over this forum thread I see only thumbnails and since I've had them on the phone a week - along with the fact I'm old and don't remember things as well as I once did, I could have found them anywhere

Ya, i've been checking that site out for the past week, great source of information and programs.

The wallpaper though seems to be just for 1 window, not one with multiple windows it seems. Wonder how it will look on a phone with 7 windows.
