Feedback On New Web Design

I am looking for constructive criticism of a new design for my personal web site (it has been 5 years without a visual update!). Please just take a look at my Photoshop mockup and let me know what you like and dislike about the design.

Well. It's ok I suppose. I think the colors are probably pretty decent, I guess it's just the lack of layout and content that is getting me. I'm used to myself working up comps with full amounts of content to fill out the designs. I'd like to see an internal page mocked up which reflects what you've done with the site shell as well.

That would make alot more sense to critic too. That way you can really work your content. The worst thing about low-tech sites these days is the lack of clear and confident layouts in the internal pages. In fact, for the most part, the layouts of teh content can make the site shell design alot more pratical and easier to design.

But anyway, keep at it.

remove the glass thing (it doesn't look good imho;) )+ i would change colors, but it's because i prefer different compositions. if you like these it's ok then;)

In overall the design looks great, although I'm not too sure about the colours you have chosen.

I ... uhh... 4th that, don't like the colors, and the glass effect or whatever it is seems out of place. Other than that, I think it's a pretty decent first draft...

I had actually intended that effect to slightly resemble two spot lights, as seen during lavish and important events. I guess that didn't work to well.... I just wanted to add some effect to the header.

I guess it's just the lack of layout and content that is getting me.

I'm not sure what you mean about the lack of layout, the mockup picture has navigation and visitor information on the left side with the right side being used for content (yeah, which is minimal). I appreciate your feedback and will add more content to the mockup, including another page.

Yeah, everyone is agreeing that the colors are not wonderful. I will be posting an update later tonight and try to find a more appealing color scheme. Did you not like the colors (blue, orange, green) or just the shades used (washed-out shades)?

Thank you. I have created this template myself and do plan on using it, after some modification, for my home page.

I think the colours are suitable - other than the blue. I believe the blue needs to be either a bit more vibrant, or something more pastel (i.e. pastelise all the colours)

Thank you all for your excellent feedback. I have posted a newer version of the design taking into account everyone's comments. It has been a few weeks, but didn't have much time to tweak the design.. works has been crazy.

Obvious changes:

- More vibrant colors.

- Spotlight (you called glass) effect removed.

- Enlarged blog area.

- Better defined edges.

- Moved menu to top (I think it looks simpler).

- Added room for a 'post catgeory' picture. But the image here is just a placeholder.

So what do you think of the newer design? A step in the right direction?
