+M2Ys4U Subscriber¹ Posted October 9, 2005 Subscriber¹ Share Posted October 9, 2005 Microsoft never actually made an official PR statement. The statement made was by a Microsoft Support agent in a user support group for people who need help with computer topics (meaning not computer experts). In fact, The Hotfix has not been officially contacted by Microsoft about any of this and has heard and read the post from third parties.Regardless what some people think, there are people out there who are very happy that we're providing them these fixes, and there are people who are excited. We've seen our traffic increase by 10,000 hits per day and we're going to keep moving forward from here. And by the way, a service pack is just that... a hotfix rollup. 586645652 wa22guy I think you're highly irresponsible to label this as a service pack. By doing so you are confusing the people who might not know better even if you do put little notes saying these are for power users only. Service pack: A Service Pack (more commonly, SP) is a software program that corrects known bugs, problems, or adds new features (and/or both). emphisis mine. i never ran into problems when installing the latest hotfixes. thanks for the info tho. 586645680 The latest public updates I'm guessing. There is a reason you have to explicitly contact microsoft to obtain these updates. tomwarren Veteran Posted October 9, 2005 Veteran Share Posted October 9, 2005 It's a stupid pack, like all these crappy codec packs out there it's unofficial and hacked together. Wait for the official SP3. If you need any of the hotfixes then contact Microsoft support and they happily provide them. These are by request only for a reason and shouldn't be publicly distributed. I called when I needed a hotfix for the .net framework, and they were very helpful in getting it sent to me. This is nothing but a site trying to gain hits by misleading people. Yes yes, of course you have. The fact that you reference this speaks volumes...and I'm sure calling it Service Pack 3 might have helped a bit. I'm sure all those hits must do wonders for ad revenue... Taking a quick glance through the forums there...seems as the majority of the people installing this thing are the type that are in a somewhat tech-limbo...they know enough to find stuff like this and think they are a step ahead of the game...but don't fully realize what it is that they are doing an the potential risks involved with installing crap that might not be needed. I just hope no one installs this crap on a system that's actually used for something important... MtnDewCodeRedFreak
Shew, glad I am smart enough to NOT install that dumb Preview of SP3. Ahh yes, bt the way, is Microsoft really planning on making a SP3 for the XP editions (Starter, Home, Pro, Media Center, Tablet PC, Home N/Pro N, and the 64-bit of Home/Pro)? Hmm was there even a "XP Home 64-bit" all along anyway? Lol, it gets confusing! cooldude7273
Check out the site on the Neowin Toplist. Over 23000 people have clicked to go to the site. I would say well over 90% of those clicks are to get "SP3". I'm surprised Neowin lets such a decieving site stay on the toplist. Just my opinion. Lol, it gets confusing! 586647844 No, there is only one 64-bit version which is known as XP Pro x64. Now concerning SP's for x64, that really depends on Windows Server 2003, considering XP x64 is based on Windows 2003 code and not XP's, hence why x64 is SP1.
