I think the original poster just wants a Vista theme for OSX not actually run a copy of Vista. I mean, its not OSX is it. And why not? The new glass effects in Vista are acutally quite good (for Windows at least) would be nice to see a new glass interface in the next version of OSX.
toastyghost
Hey, does anyone know of, or is able to create a windows vista (longhorn) theme for Shapeshifter ( Panther 10.3.9). Thanks 586645824 Currently there's Ruler Aero which is pretty close to the glass style (albeit with some large bugs). Pyn over at MacThemes is also working on a variant of the Vista look but they're currently having database issues and I can't link you to the relevant thread. KoL Veteran Posted October 10, 2005 Veteran Share Posted October 10, 2005 I wanted to port my Vista theme to OSX but I really hate how themes are created for OSX. Just replacing resources. Here's a mockup. I dont know if some things are possible.
xxxxxx.xxxxxx
That looks really nice KoL, even if it was something I wouldnt particularly use :)
griffin7
That looks just like what i wanted KoL, if you could try and make that it would be great. I use your VistaXP theme on my Windows, which is good, so this would probably be pretty good. Thanks
fukachu
the finder window isn't possibly form my experience anyway.. unless you try a similar method to the aero theme by using a large image so you can get that striped look. the metal areas of os x cause me problems when skinning cause you have to dumb down skins a bit for them. Apple did experiment with transparency in the OS with 10.2 - it's not usable. Speaking of usable, the "Glass" interface is ANYTHING but usable. Simon Veteran Posted October 12, 2005 Veteran Share Posted October 12, 2005 Microsoft did something right with Aero. I'm a MS hater in some ways, even though I use Windows (but I really, really, really want a mac, just can't afford one). Anyway, the Glass stuff in vista looks very usable to me, why not have a little eye candy?
prz
It isn't even eye candy, in my opinion. It lacks color, the transparency is WAY too much, the blur makes it unusable. What's the usefulness of being able to see through your windows and have it blurred? Sure it's a cool effect, but not usable at all. I mean, At least Luna had color
Jelly2003
WOW! I never thought I'd see the day that Apple users would try and copy the interface of a Microsoft operating system.
fukachu
@ jelly - the very popular themer max has had a windows xp for mac theme for years. nothing new about it. the fact remains that no matter how ugly an interface is there will be people who ill probably want it. Leddy
I reckon it's funny how Mac people want a windows theme, and Windows people want a Mac theme. Pity the Mac themes don't actually give you the windows interface. The windows themes gives you the entire Mac interface. =)
.Neo
The windows themes gives you the entire Mac interface. =) 586665771 Nope, there's more to Aqua than the theme itself.

I dont know if some things are possible. 586652304 I really like that, like how you kept the Apple logo, and the windows sorta look like black iPods IMO also, isn't that how msstyles are done, replacing resources? :D Are you insane? Apple did experiment with transparency in the OS with 10.2 - it's not usable. Speaking of usable, the "Glass" interface is ANYTHING but usable. 586658019 yeah, the special effects are nice and all, but when all of your titlebars are one transparent and blended together, it get's hard to use, Apple tried it and nobody liked the effect. Did show off some of the simple stuff WindowServer could do though, and now with CoreImage and Tiger, well, each window on the system could appear with the Ripple effect if apple wanted, but that would get annoying.

Yes you replace image but you can move object like buttons, you can add effects, change content and sizing margins, changes sizes of taskbar, titlebar, buttons, startmenu, etc. and much more. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted October 13, 2005 Veteran Share Posted October 13, 2005 well, yeah (have made a few windows themes before) i know what your getting at, but in the end your still replacing resources. :D
