The switch? Would you recommend it?

But then that's not the point, we could name alternatives for every single app out there.

Damn...

If we wanted to go down that route we would end up naming a load of crap like dock.app, or **** like that

Off topic, but does anyone else think that the "Switch" programmer dude has really *really* freaky hands? Dunno why, but his fingers look about 2 feet long. That commercial just came on...gives me the creeps every time I see him. :s

I mean the guy with the beard, Mr. "Answered-4-questions-now-I'm-surfing" dude, in case you guys weren't sure which one I meant.

I would definitely recommend "the switch". I did it almost a week ago and I have loved it every single day. I absolutely love OS X and with Jaguar on the way it's about to get even better. I haven't even turned on my PC since last week. I don't even want to turn it on, even though I need to get some files and whatnot off of it. :D

DON'T TURN ON YOUR PC!!!

That thing knows when you're up to something. I haven't had any problems with my PC since I've installed XP last October, but this past week, since I've been thinking about getting an iBook, and I bought an issue of Macworld, the PC has been acting up. Like a bitch. It's on to me man. This thing knows I'm up to something. I can't talk long cause when he find out, he'll shut down. I havent much time left so I'll

LOL :D

i personally would never make the 'switch', but that is out of personal preference, and just what i am comfortable with... i have used a pc my entire life, and never once though about a mac... back in the day, they had nothing to offer. given, now they are just as good as pc's in a lot of ways. however, i like the pc for the following reasons

1) i am comfortable with it

2) at this point the 2 OS's are becoming more and more interchangable.... so why change

3) upgradability

4) i like modding my case, and if i got a mac, i would get the kind where the monitor is attached to the swively thing... not much modding there

5) steve jobs (just thought that needed to be there :p)

6) my friend jon that pitched mac to me for years, but uses a pc at home

7) that damned one button mouse... i mean my mouse at home has 4 buttons and a wheel

8) games

9) ability to play said games (ties into the multi button mouse issue)

10) 10...10..there has to be a 10, right... hrm... well i guess i will just say the stupid looking iMacs that sold a lot because of the colors and how "cute" they are

But I wouldnt mind having a switch myself, So.. Would any of you recommend the switch?

What are advantages and disadvantages of the iMac?

:)

if you really want to switch to the mac, then do so :D

but i'dd advise u to wait till jag is already installed on the macs since you'dd have to pay $130 for it if u bought it too early

buy the computer u want most, n get atleast 512 megs of ram (if you plan on using vpc ;) or ps)

my list of advantages:

1) its not windows

2)you dont have to worry bout upgrading to a new computer for atleast 2 years (since even computers 3 years old are very compatible with osx right now and theres many ppl who own 3 year old macs who wont get a newer mac)

3) osx is based on unix, but it doesnt mean its going to be like linux, its actually pretty easy to use osx, basically drag and drop for appz (installing) and for uninstalling, u just move the file to the trash :)

4) with an imac/emac you dont have to buy a monitor, and in most cases (now), it includes dvd (and cd burning of course)

5) theres VERY FEW viruses/worms/etc out there for macs right now so if u dont have an av app installed, u dont really have to worry

6) almost any app thats on windows has a counterpart on mac, office is available for mac, wmp, winamp has a player out there but i'm not sure if it works with osx, vpc (if u want to run windows appz and windows), internet explorer, dvd player software, cd burning software (theres some 3rd party software out there thats probably pretty good), movie creation software, most adobe products, all/most macromedia products, etc

7) theyre stylish ;)

8)most osx users rarely have crashes (as they say)

9) you can upgrade on ram (only up to 512 on the g3 imac, but up to 1.5 gigs with the g4 powermac)

10)osx ui is customizable (aka has themes ;))

disadvantages:

1) all macs have 2 y/o hardware (they still use pc133 ram)

2) too expensive, even tho good quality

3) bad for gaming (unless the new 17" imac is good)

4) most of the macs have slow cd burners cept the emac

5) on the emac/imac you cant really customize anything (cept ram)

6) no multibutton mouse yet (even tho some mac users dont mind it, and you can just use a logitech/ms mouse maybe)

7) mac os 9/x doesnt support twain drivers for scanners

8) .mac is going to be charged for $100 US, and jaguar is going to sell for $129

9) you cant just use any scanner/printer/etc with a mac (maybe on vpc u can for windows but i'm not too sure)

10) doesnt have G5 processor yet

but mainly positive, but if they released a mobo that uses ddr ram, osx would probably be better, there were rumors of the new nforce2 was going to be made to function on new macs (this may happen on the new powermacs if apple doesnt act lazy)
