Half Life 2: Lost Coast RELEASED!

But the one burning question in my mind here is: Why the hell did it take, what, 6 months of development to create something that took me 15 minutes to finish even with listening to all the commentary and stopping to look at all the pretty graphics? If Valve really plans to make episodic content, they really have to step it up. At that rate, a new chapter to Half-Life 2 would probably take 10 years to finish... place priorities on your major projects and not on a little useless update here or there.

i think implementing HDR into the source engine took this long. the level would have taken them a couple of weeks if that.

Again, an ATI 9600 Pro can only do the Bloom Effect. Only Nvidia 6600 and up can do true HDR (well for the moment). Because the bloom effect has the most impact on the graphics, it looks like HDR, but it ain't.

ah ok then. :( . Bit of a bummer. But it still looks pretty cool.

Edit:

Errr... Nope I was right, thought so because it looks like HDR and guess what, it's full HDR, looked at some pictures elsewhere and they aren't any different from mine.

Then I remembered I read this.

"The frame rate counter at the top of the last two images was taken when I had tons of background tasks running on my PC, and should not be taken as indicative of actual optimal frame rates on my hardware (Pentium 4, 2.4GHz, 1 gig RAM, ATI 9600 Pro 256 meg) I was, however, able to get a rough idea of the relative impact HDR had on performance. With HDR disabled, I had around 7-15% higher frame rates on average. According to Gabe Newell, cards like the 9800 and above, with many more simultaneous pipelines than my 9600, are much less affected by the addition of HDR."

well downloaded it, installed it, cannot play it.

When the level is loaded up the game starts to have sound loops (choppy sound) every few seconds, than is runs again and the story repeats itself. Have tried to turn of the sound (BIOS and with -nosound parameter) but without any result. I've got all the newest drivers voor MOBO etc.....so thanks but no thanks VALVE!!

Just played it, it was AWESOME, I have seen HDR in DOD, but this was just great, i really liked the church scene with the song and broken windowns through which the sun came in, loked spectacualr, very impressed. I ran it on high settings with my 6600gt, 2500xp, 512mb ram, ran at around 40fps take or give. I liked every moment of it, need more! Wish CS:S had HDR now :D

GJ VALVE :woot: :jump:

Yea, mine says recommended cpu as 2.9Ghz. I have a 2.53Ghz CPU. Should be fine. Half-Life 2 runs fine on mine with the highest settings.

I'm getting random freezes... Ugh, this ****es me off.

LC was crashing on me last night... COD2 was crashing too... im trying to figure out if it's a game issue, a driver issue (81.85 & 81.87) or simply my computer too far overclocked. Really annoying.

Had some problems in the beginning. Some sound loops and stuff. Tried some other Nvidia drivers and all problems seems to be gone (went back to the 70.85). Now it runs like the sun, 8xAA(display properties) 16xAF, all settings at max.

It was a bit short, but hell so was the COD2 demo. I think it pretty awesome. Did anybody noticed the boots of the old guy? He had some wet rubber boots on and you could even see the water reflecting on his boots.
