XP: NTLDR is Missing

Recommended Posts

I think it's a BIOS issue that he/she is having. If there was only 1 hard drive connected when Windows was installed, and things get screwed up AFTER Windows is installed, then it's most likely a BIOS issue.

ok, I got it. I took both backup drives and just left my system drive. formatted, installed windows and it booted up fine. I added my first backup drive (SATA) booted up, worked fine. Added the IDE drive, booted up and it works fine now. So I guess when I have to format, I need to disconnect the other two drives. What a pain, but thank you everyone that took the time to help out. I really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Mike.

Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.

Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.

After I press R to repair Windows, I dont get the press 1 to log into my windows installation. It does straight to the C: prompt. I guess thats why

copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\

copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

doesnt work when I try it since I am not logged into Windows?

Digging up an old thread.

This is what I did and I STILL get the error message during boot.

1) "1" for choosing "C:\WINDOWS"

3) Enter the admin password

4) BOOTCFG /REBUILD

5)CD\

6) copy d:\i386\NTLDR c:

7) copy d:\i386\NTDETECT.com c:

8) fixboot

9) EXIT

Can anyone help?
