I'm not 100% sure though and this may cause the updater to kick into action needlessly. It was a trick in the pre 1.0 days but. Dont take my word on it. Sure you could do something in about:config but Furthermore using extensions not made for 1.5 could cause issues so be prepared to launch in safe mode should you get it working. edit: theres a setting there for extensions.disabledObsolete which by default seems set to true.
