Best Time to Get a Mac?

Recommended Posts

Since I figured you people at the Mac forum know about all of the rumors and stuff, I have a few ?'s.

I know there isn't gonna be a "major" upgrade for Mac OS X since Jaguar came out, so that's not a problem.

I'm thinking of getting a TiBook, and the latest is 700MHz g3, right? Does anybody know if there are any rumors of a possible g4 release of iBook?

Updates for AirPort or anything? I know if it's released RIGHT after i get the tibook then i could jsut exchange it, but i'd like to know.

I'm asking all of this because i've had problems in the past with premade computers. I buy a supposed "top-of-the-line" computer, and 3 weeks later they come out with a new one.

Thanks,

There are major differences between the iBook and the TiBook. The iBook is the consumer line model which tops out at 700MHz G3, this is plenty enough for jaguar and will be quite fast. The TiBook is the pro model and is very expensive and vastly superior to the iBook, eMac and the iMac. They are two totally seperate models with thousands of dollars difference.

iBook

TiBook (PowerBook G4)

The iBook probably won't be getting a major upgrade any time soon, especially since the new powermacs are to be announced. These contain a G3 up to 700MHz. Also you don't have to worry about price depreciation, Macs keep their value very well because of the nature of the Mac market.

On the other hand if you are after the TiBook, that will run into thousands of dollars, it contains the G4 up to 800MHz which is also on a faster system bus and a nuce chunk of DDR L3 cache, this means it's a fantastic performer for a laptop and quite high end.

Hopefully that's cleared things up, just ask if it hasn't.

Oh my mistake. I didn't know that "TiBook" equaled PowerBook. I just thought that TiBook meant "Titanium iBook."

I'll just be getting an iBook then, thanks.
