Smit
RIP. I agree with you njlouch. I hate how people act all nice just because someone died. A couple of months ago some dumb chav kid killed himself trying to do stunts on his moped. After he died the local papers all had storys about how he was a good, kind, clever, helpful boy who was a great addition to society. I generally knew of him and in reality he was a dumb chav ###### who went around stealing, mugging, beating people up, shoplifting, vandelising, and generally acting like an idiot all of the time. He died acting like the complete idiot he was and then everyone says its such a shame. It was a good thing in my eyes. George Best was a good player but he spent the rest of his life acting like an idiot. I'm sure alot of other people deserved that liver better then him. moglenstar
Son Calum, 24, who had kept an all-night vigil at Best's bedside, said: "Not only have I lost my dad but we've all lost a wonderful man." Best died in intensive care at 1255 GMT on Friday following "a long and very valiant fight", said a statement from west London's Cromwell Hospital. The ex-Manchester United and Northern Ireland star had multiple organ failure following weeks of ill health. leesmithg
George Best disgraced himself as an alcoholic, when drunk he broke the law and beat his wife, his language was also very colourful. That was his anal side. The flipside what we hope to remember him for, all the charity monies he raised, his football skills his knowledge. Lets remember him for what he earn't his living at which was football. The post about the chav, well I wish people would tell the turth and bury the PC'ness. Hope your area is better off without that lunatic. hjf288
Good to see I'm not the only one sobbing about a loser kicking the bucket. Sure he may have been a good football player way back when but so what? What has he done since? And why is there such mass grief for such bad example of a man?Yeah, may he rest in peace and may the rest of the population start living in 2005! 586851409 Amen Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/401895-george-best-has-died/page/2/#findComment-586851572 Share on other sites

Nick H. Supervisor Posted November 25, 2005 Supervisor Share Posted November 25, 2005 I hate how people act all nice just because someone died Are you telling me that you would seriously go up to his family and say "I don't mind. He had it coming."? People act nice because of empathy. It is where you put yourself in to someone else's position, and think "how would I feel if I were in their shoes?" If you were in his family's position, you would probably be feeling real bad right now, and you would want to have people try to comfort you. Having some insensitive person saying "the guy had it coming" isn't something you want to hear, at least not right after the event. However look more into George Bests case and then you'll see after he got the liver transplant he drank again even after recommendations from the doctor not to. I dont think empathy works here given him not following advice. Either way though, he died, he's famous, he's a hero in English football, he deserves to be remembered. Though CNN and BBC both treated this as "Breaking News". Hardly deserves that... Breaking News should only be used when a tragedy such as Katrina, falling of WTC, the Tsunami of 2004, and suicide bombings occur. When one man dies, it should be treated just like another death. Dont glorify it! Please! Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/401895-george-best-has-died/page/2/#findComment-586851885 Share on other sites

»X«
Was this the guy that got a liver transplant, and continued to drink after that, essentially ****ing that one away, too? Great player!Too bad for his family....Too bad for the family of the other person that would have actually appreciated the transplant. 586851408 Spot on mate. I cant stand football. But this guy irritated me from his off pitch antics. Boozing etc. Ok fair play it might not be that easy to quit. But come on getting a new liver off someone then going out on the **** again. Donosio
I have no sympathy for people who drink their self to a stupor. Alcoholic abuse it one of the biggest killers next to cancer and heart disease. People who educe alcohol to the point of not being able to control their bodily functions and/or walk or stand up I have no sympathy for. I feel sorry for the poor family who donated the kidney to George Best and he still carried on drinking. What does that say? Self pity and carelessness. :pinch: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/401895-george-best-has-died/page/2/#findComment-586851916 Share on other sites

However look more into George Bests case and then you'll see after he got the liver transplant he drank again even after recommendations from the doctor not to. I dont think empathy works here given him not following advice. Alright, yes I agree with this. He had his second chance and continued to drink. However, empathy still has a place here, because whatever happened, his family is still going to be sad. When I was talking about empathy, I was more indicating the family, not Best himself. Thats just the way News works, he was famous therefore it was breaking news. I think the defining bit of "breaking news" would be the "breaking" bit, indicating either "happening as we speak" or "incredibly recent event." This might be why it has been put under that section. Also, the BBC at least have been following this news story since Best was admitted to hospital. This might be another reason for the placing of the article under "breaking news." Not by todays standards, he wouldnt last 5 mins in a match today (if he had his health). My dead gran would be a good footballer back in the day. Joke: george best is lying in hospital when the nurse approaches him "george" she said "ive got some good news and some bad news" "give me the bad news first" replied george "ok" "you have one hour to live" "omg" gasped george "what can be the f*cking good news then?" joeydoo
I had the pleasure of meeting George a few times, as he lived in my local community briefly. He was the kindest gentleman and he was more than keen to let the children play football in his garden at anytime, even watching them himself. The quote below is ........ Yeah that was clearly the safest place for the kids. If they had been playing near the street he might have run them over in one of his drunk driving excursions. He was clearly a great footballer. A legend I have no doubt. But he ****ed it away and didn't have the guts to get himself sorted out. He wasted someone else's liver and could have killed people drink driving. If anyone else had done that and beat up a copper they would be ripped a new on by the press. Not given a front page epitaph. That's another thing to hate about the Daily Mail; they have Best all over the front page like a god and have been crying blue murder over how the 24hr drinking will be the end of all humanity. I am sick of it. I bet they won't have Jeremy Beadle all over the front pages when he dies; he has done ten times as much for charity yet since all he has is withered hand and a bad TV CV instead of a good football career, then he has got far less public worth. Not that they should give a dam when Beadle dies, it's just an example.
