I have never seen much value in this type of software. I have used them for years, if anything i think they additiona churn on the drive causes more drive failures.

For some reason version of Diskkeeper past 7 have rubbed me the wrong way, and for the life of me I don't remember why ;)

As such, I've been very happy with PerfectDisk since version 6, and barring any earthshaking performance upgrade (and not a paper one with UberHyperFastDiskerator 8000 that has no realworld impact) I'll stick with it.

I just bought DiskKeeper Pro about a month ago. Been loving it. As far as "feeling" the difference, I "felt" a difference after the first 3 days. Things run smoother, and faster even.

Maybe... or maybe not. This bit seems interesting:

If I recall correctly, PD's SmartPlacement reorganizes files by access date timestamps, but I could be wrong.

I sure hope this update would be worth it. Recent versions have been unimpressive.

Doesn't SmartPlacement use modification timestamps and not access?

Actually you're right, SmartPlacement uses modification timestamps.

We'll have to see if i-FAAST is more effective than SmartPlacement.

Looks good, I'll probably end up trying it out to see how it stacks up against Perfect Disk.

please let us know what you find out. I'll probably try it out too though... :p
