[NFL] No. 1 pick breakdown

Yeah, Carr has shown glimpses of goodness, but with that terrible offensive line, he can't do squat. Vick just can't pass, he should be a running back.

 Leave Vick at QB. What Vick really needs right now is a new offensive coordinator. Greg Knapp needs to open the playbook to Vick's style of play.

A new O-line wouldn't be so bad either. They can run block, but when it comes to pass blocking, they are horrible.

I think that's true. Vick is never going to be a great QB, but the Falcons were morons for what they did. They paid him all that money, and then put him in a West Coast Offense! Vick will never be an accurate QB, but he can throw deep. Putting him in an offense predicated around short passes was asinine.

Manning has been very up and down this season. Not a good year overall. But it's his first full year starting and his 2nd year in the league overall!

Not an excuse. Look at his draft mate, Ben Roethlisberger. He dont pass that much because the Steelers system, but whyen he does he is letal. His ratings dont lie.

Yes it is an excuse. How many QBs set the league afire as rookies? Check out Elway, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, etc.

Manning isn't a rookie, but this is really his first full season as a starter.

Roethlisberger has had a great defense and a great running game. The defense comes out expecting run, so when Roethlisberger does pass, he is effective.

Roethlisberger has played much better than Manning thus far, but Roethlisberger has never been asked to take the offense on his shoulders. When the team was behind and he was asked to make plays, he was poor. Check out last year's playoffs against the Jets and Patriots.

This thread is 3 pages of nothing.

I'm a Niner fan and I've been hoping all along that the Niners wouldn't get the #1 pick and have to deal with the whole Reggie Bush thing. Fact is, a team like the Niners needs alot more than just Reggie Bush. Hell, Houston wanted him so bad they missed field goals on purpose...except the brilliant Texans forgot that their defense is crap, they've surrounded David Carr with pretty good receivers and he's done nothing, and the offensive line is a joke. Tell me, what will Reggie Bush's impact be if he can't even get out of the backfield? This is exactly why I didn't want the Niners to draft him. The NFL is not the NBA, 1 player is not going to make or break a team's success when all of the other parts are crap.

I rather the Niners spend the next 2 seasons stocking up some offensive linemen, get a young, game-breaker receiver, and work on tweaking the defense. Adrian Peterson will be available in one of the next 2 drafts, Marshawn Lynch of CAL will be draft-eligible in 2 years, or someone else will come along.

Well, Marino still holds the recors as the rookie with the best passer rating ever. He made the pro bowl in his first season, he set the NFL record with 5000 passing yards in his second season :p

Putting all the responsabilities to the QB is an error, doesnt matter how good is the QB. Just look at Marino again. He is a superbowless legend.

Also, Manning doesnt have defense and running game? How about Barber, Straham and Umenyiora (I am pretty sure I typed it wrong  )

#1: The texans arent going to pick Bush. They just extended Well's contract. The guy has been playing well in his first three seasons, running for 1000 yards in all of them. I dont think they are going to pick such a redundant choice when they clearly are in bigger needs.

I agree with you in the offensive line part, but I think that the 49's have plenty young talent already.

Smith is not the best rookie QB exactly, but he can develop. Gore looks good and has been playing very well in the last games and Lloyd looks like he can become a great WR. You start the offense movement with a good triad (Thats they key in this season's Redskins awakening. Brunell-Moss-Portis or the key for the impressive Colts at offense)

If they don't pick Bush that means they'll have traded the top pick... better to draft Bush and trade him later then let the offers for him go away to some other team.

That would be better. Sometimes I forgot tachtical points. :p

You mean they extended Domanick Davis's contract. Yes, and I don't think it would be wise to pay two backs that kind of money. That's why Houston really needs to trade down and grab the best available LT. Then pursue defense and maybe another O-lineman.
