The biggest BS sports story of the year--->

How about ESPN saying USC can beat any of the all-time greatest teams, but in reality they almost lost a few games this year ------ Fresno St & Notre Dame for example. (where they caught a HUGE break - if Leinart doesn't fumlbe out of bounds, game over, Notre Dame wins).

OR

USC going for three-peat, when they only have one BCS title. 1+1=2, yet ESPN seems to think 1+1=3.

When they lose to Texas it will be a 1-peat, book it :D

Obviously. The thread starter is dealing with American sports, not British. Maybe it would be a good idea to have a British sports stories of the year thread or something.

they arent british sports, they are international sports

far more important than any domestic league/cup

inc. british and american alike

The USC 3-peat thing....

The BCS was created by the major conferences to crown one true national champion. The PAC-10 is one of these conferences, but USC only wants to recognize it when it works in their favor. They should have been in the 2003 Sugar Bowl (ie THE National Championship game) against LSU, but they were not. Many think Auburn was better than OU last year, but they were left out like USC in 2003. It is not the best system, but that is what they agreed to. This is the reason a +1 needs come into the national championship picture. If you will remember, Pete Carroll and Nick Saban both agreed to stand by the system, but as soon as USC was left out he (Pete) went back on his word. He has no class. Anybody can argue that USC was the better team that year, but they still didn't get to the championship game, it's kind of like, what part of NO don't you understand? And if you remember before OU lost to K-State that year, they (media, ie ESPN) were kissing OU's ass like they are doing with USC this year, saying how they were the best college football team ever. The fact is they played in the Big 12 which was not that strong that year or last year (while Auburn goes undefeated in the SEC). The same thing can be said of Texas this year.

A lot of the stuff you're talking about is British football though (the various leagues you guys have over there).

Yes, football is international (much moreso than American football), but so is baseball and basketball.

How about that dude that screwed that baseball game by trying to catch the ball!, or was that last year!?? I think it was at a New york vs Mets game

It was neither New York nor the Mets, and it wasn't this year. It was 2004 MLB playoffs, Chicago Cubs vs. Florida Marlins, Game 6. Chicago was leading 3-0 in the 8th inning, and was on the verge of wrapping up the NLCS and going to the World Series. Steve Bartman of the Cubs interfered with Moises Alou, who was trying to catch a foul ball. Bartman reached over the wall and grabbed it, robbing Alou (who was underneath the ball) of a chance to catch it. This incident seemed to deflate the Cubs, as the Marlins rocked ace Mark Prior and the Cubs bullpen for 8 unanswered runs. The Marlins then won Game 7, and went on to beat the Yankees in the World Series.

I dunno...I know that it seems like the same song and dance each year, but the fact that Lance Armstrong has won 7 Tour de France's in a row is simply mindboggling. Everyone knows the story, and that is what makes it just that much more amazing. The worlds most grueling race (Everyone who says "He's just riding a bike! Nothing else." I'm sorry, but you just need to keep your mouth shut.) and he wins it SEVEN times in a row. Astonishing.

Yeah, the mountain stages are just incredibly difficult... considering the velocities those bicycles are traveling.
