[Shell Patcher] Tango Icons for Windows

Recommended Posts

I found how to change the icons on the AIM 5.x buddy list. If anyone wants a Tangoized AIM 5.2 or above, I can make a quick aimres.dll copy with Tangoized icons and stuff. Is anyone game for it?

EDIT: If anyone has an AIM higher than 5.2.3277, I'll see if I can customize an aimres.dll for your AIM version.

I think everyone died in here. It's actually funny to see this thread slowly creep down the post list day by day. Not that it's all that great because Tango rocks and the patcher rocks and this is such a great thread but...yeah.

Maybe everyone is quiet because all kinds of secret projects ar ebeing worked on. Maybe Vert is finishing up the Tango Patcher for Vista (even though he said it'd take a while) and Sranshaft is creating half a dozen new Tango app icons and Stefeq is making a super duper Tango patcher for a program that needs patching and SooperDoode is updating all of his skins with spiffiness and shiny things. Nah, that's ridiculous. Nevermind.

Bad Vertigosity! You must sacrifice your life as you know it and become a slave with the sole purpose of creating a Tango shellpatcher for Windows Vista so we will all be happy. You are but an object in the vast, intricate universe.

....

Starcraft is fun, though, isn't it? :p

Gee, SooperDoode couldn't be updating them with stuff like fully-cutemenu'd-and-tangoized icons and stuff, could he?

And maybe Sranshaft's working on Photoshop CS/CS2/CS3 app icons for patchin?

Eh, who am I kiddin'. That's silly to think. XD

Hey, great patch.

I didn't go through all the pages here, so this question/answer might have been posted already. Well...

Is it possible to see some sort of preview for each of the icon sets (Tango, Tangerine, Industrial, Gnome) included in final release? And another question. What are those Single-Shot Mods (description is not available in installer)?

Har. Har. Har. :p

The menus are as cute'd as they can possibly be without the actual cutemenu extension. So there! The only thing they really need as for updates is new tabs (or native tabs) and a possible implementation of the new GTK+ set if I can find the source. But why would SooperDoode do any of that? He's a lazy ass! He even refers to himself in third person!

It'd be...interesting to show a preview of what each patch does. They all do A LOT! Basically, if you want to know what the icons you choose look like, you can "preview" them online. They're all open-source so they all should be floating around somewhere. Gnome and Tangerine are in a SVN collection on gnome.org and ubuntu.com and the Tango icons are viewable on their website. Industrial icons are from Novell and I still have no idea where they can be found so you'll have to hunt for those yourself. Oh, and the Single-shot mod is just a different mouse image that vertigosity likes.

Yeah, the idea was originally to have quick little overwrites for various things (classic/luna start button logos, media players, input/output devices, etc) that had specific icons for them, and wouldn't take much work to do (IE, not need to be composited with other images, or have special stuff done with them), but I got lazy/busy and nobody's really requested any, so it's just been my cute little mouse so far :p

There's some pretty amazing icons for specific devices floating around made by people who aren't me since I did my mouse and added it to the installer, though, so it might be time to pick it back up.

Working IT doesn't really leave one with much energy for playing IT in the evening :/

Heck, man, why not add iPods and PSPs to that?

Also, I made a new icon for the Winamp filetypes that I think you could use from now on: file_winamp.ico

I'm also planning on making a main icon for IZArc, just as there's a toolbar and filetype icon for it.

EDIT: I got an IZArc icon done, based off the XArchiver icon mainly. I'm not very skilled at Tangoizing icons that well.

IZArc.ico

Well, I beat Starcraft. On to Brood Wars!

How are you going to tackle the preview-enabled icons? The Tango folders open upwards, Vista's folder opens to the right and has thumbnails spilling out of it. (Preview enabled icons can be disabled using Folder Options.)
Well, the way it handles preview-enabled folders is actually pretty simple and elegant - it just has two icons, imageres #5 and #6 for normal folders, one of which it lays under the preview stuff, the other over:

Of course, you're quite right about the Tango icons being the wrong angle and such - even with the most obvious quick dirty hack done, it's still pretty wrong. Unless there's a hack to change the size and angle of the preview images, I'll probably have to invent sideways-variant folder icons for all the icon sets in Vista... owwie. Or just disable preview-folders... but where's the fun in that?

And just to give everybody something to dream about:

Having played with Vista a bit, I am starting to dig some of its nicer points... and there's already (a) component-removal tool(s) out for it. Now I just need a new machine, so I can Zalmanify my video card :p

AH! Why must you taunt us so? Are you actually using Vista as your main OS or are you still on XP for the most part and using virtualization for Linux and Vista? Things are looking really good!

Damn, you are seriously making me tempted in making me play StarCraft again. I haven't played it ever since WarCraft III Frozen Throne came out and I was playing X Hero Siege and DoTa on Battle.net. Maybe I should start playing again to find out about the story with Raynor and Kerrigan, what with the UED...

Wait, this is a Tango thread, when did I start talking about StarCraft? Damn you, vertigosity :p !

PS: I like what I'm seeing at the moment

I haven't bought a new machine or traded in my 7800GS for something fanless yet (which... I'm in no hurry to), so my explorations into Vista are still purely virtualized.

Damn that looks great, I really wish I had vista.

Well, I have Vista. But the Tango Patcher makes me want to install XP ;)

Shall we launch a self-help group?

"...and I'm still an XP-addict"

Hi, I'm ReLapse and I refuse to install vista because I'm addicted to tango XP.

Welcome, welcome... the first step is always the most difficult!

But to admit you're addicted is also the first step in the direction of recovery (Vista Tango Patcher - the "cure") ;)

btw. the lack of tango in vista even drove me in dark linux regions... it's so scary!
