I was rooting for Pitt but yeah that offensive pass interference call that negated the TD was EXTREMELY questionable (I'm trying to be polite). Like they siad, Michael Irvin made a living doing that. Plus BOTH guys had their arms extended. The Reothlisberger TD, I think they made the wrong call on the field but that the video evidence wasn't conclusive enough to overturn. I thought his left arm obscured the ball and you couldn't really tell how close it got becuase he definitely did get pushed back. So no matter what the call on the field was it should ahve been upheld but I think they made the wrong call. And that penatly on Hasselbeck WAS terrible. While they were in commerical after that I was saying to my dad, "What were they tlaking about? He was trying to tackle the dude not block someone!" Bad call.

With all that said I think Seattle gave that game away. Brown's 2 missed FGs, and the AWFUL clock management at the end of both halves was disgusting.

I'm glad Pitt won though. They were my pick and I wanted to see Bettis retire with the trophy and Cowher finally get his. Well it took New England, Indy, and Carolina all getting knocked out for me to get to rooting for Pitt but nonetheless. lol

Like I said earlier...and I'll say it again...statistics don't mean anything in the Superbowl, and I was proved right with the Steelers winning. The Superbowl is a whole different game. Anyways, way to go Steelers!! And on another note, I was expecting a higher scoring game. Also, the worst thing now is that we'll have to deal about Seahawk fans complaining about an unfair game. They never are in the playoffs...and I didn't think this one was bad at all, there was the one questionable touchdown, but that's it.

How were you proven right? The statistics were borne out in this game.

the refs totally screwed seattle

1) the "pushoff" on seattle's first TD that was called back.. there was hardly any contact on that play

the back judge saw that pitts defender was complaing then thought for a second and threw the flag

Let me just repeat I think that was a bad call but I don't think he let the Pitt player influence him. On a few replays it looked to me like he just missed his flag on a first grab lol.

Anyone else notice the oddity of both the records that were broken by one?

Until today, longest rushing play in Super Bowl history was Marcus Allen's 74 yard romp against Washington. Parker had a 75 yarder.

Longest INT return was 75 yards and the one by Herndon was 76 yards.

If Seattle had managed a comeback it wouldv'e been by 11 points and that would have broken the old record for biggest comeback which was 10 by Dallas against Buffalo.

Don't know if anyone else noticed that or if I'm jsut an oddball. More likely the latter. lol

So you're telling me when others were saying how the stats show that Seattle has the upper hand and I said that those things don't mean anything and that Pitt will end up winning and they did.

I still don't see why you argue about that push off in the endzone, I found that he clearly was obstructing the Steeler player from having a fair chance at the pass.

And yeah, those things were weird how they broke the records by 1 yard. And Seattle played horribly at the end of both quarters. Anyways, I'm not going to bother with this anymore...the Steelers won, that's all that matters.

You want to talk about bad officiating? The Steelers dealt with it in mass numbers the whole playoffs. I think the refs made all the right calls, maybe the pushoff wasn't a good one but I'd have to know the exact rules of pushing off before I could judge. We won. STEELERS ARE CHAMPS. It's over Seattle fans!

The Seahawks did outplay the Steelers by a slight margin, just like the stats suggested.

Although, the stats aren't always right. Nothing is right 100% of the time.

I was shocked. Not that they were both by one yard, but that two records were broken:

Both were 75, and both are now 76. THAT'S odd.

And while I agree that a couple of the officiating calls were bad (the Hasselbeck tackle), I'm just gonna say that it makes up for some of the crap calls against Pittsburgh during the playoffs (Polamalu interception).

No, it doesn't make up for anything. You know that saying "Two wrongs don't make a right"? Great example right there.

I am convinced after this year's post-season that the NFL "invents" penalties throughout the season. That tackle by Hasselbeck was absolute BS, I've seen that same type of tackle thousands of times and now all of a sudden it's called and Al Michaels has the exact reasoning for it? Give me a break. The refs took 2 touchdowns from the Seahawks and gave the Steelers 1. That's 21 points.

That said, Seattle killed themselves more than anything. 2 missed field goals, clock mismanagement at the ends of both halves...not to mention the commercials were crap, the halftime show was crap...blaaaaaah.

Yes, I'm bitter because the Niners suck.

The referees did make a lot of crap up. One of the new rules is tackling a Steeler is now a personal foul.

I love how they pretended they didn't know who had the ball.

HELLO? IF THE QB IS TRYING TO MAKE A TACKLE, THE OTHER TEAM HAS POSSESSION. THUS, HE ISN'T BLOCKING. HE'S TACKLING.

If he was blocking, that would probably be a penalty, yeah. It's perfectly legal to try to tackle a defender who took possession of the ball, though. Until this game.

To be honest, I don't know what's more disturbing:

The officiating or the stupidity of Holmgren and Hasselbeck. What the hell was going on at the end of the 2nd and 4th quarters? Someone is a moron right there.

I heard the explanation for the end of the 2nd quarter (I called, he audibled, I called, he audibled), which was BCS as well. It was all extremely moronic.

Herm Edwards is renowned for his skill at screwing up time management, but even he never managed to pull something like this off.

Every year I have a contest with myself. How long can I go without knowing who is playing in the Super Bowl? Today, I made my goal of not knowing until it was over. A couple of years ago, I accidentally found out a couple of days early (Damn newspaper! Can't they keep 'sports' in the 'sports' section?) :angry:

I'm not so sure this was a bad call. We rewinded it like 100 times, and it does appear in about 2 frames on my DVR that the ball was over the white. Then he gets hit back, and then on the ground stretches for it. It was close for sure though. So close, i will say, that if they said "No TD" they may not have overturned it.

Now, Hasslebacks clipping penalty, WTF?

And, the push off should have been a penalty. I mean, it doesn't matter how "hard" you push, you cant push off at all.

Really? Then why not make that damn call on EVERY pass play throughout the season?

I have no issue with the penalty itself, he pushed off, fine. But don't go waiting until the biggest game of the season to start calling that garbage. EVERY SINGLE PASS PLAY SOMEONE IS TOUCHING SOMEONE ELSE. The defender didn't even move backward on the push, it didn't give Jackson any more of an advantage to the football.

And why are horsecollar tackles being called in the regular season and not the Super Bowl? Joey Porter clearly and blatantly grabbed Shaun Alexander's pads from behind and drug him down. Either make the call every time it happens or don't call it all. Consistancy...that's all we want.

I agree with you. They refs need to be more consistant. But, I think the push off did help a little. I mean, he was wide open on that TD. I didn't even see the play develop (I was getting some friend chicken. mmmm) but I saw the catch as I walked in. I was like, man, how did he get wide open? Then on the replay I saw the push off.

I did see Porter on the horsecoller tackle. My wife (who doesn't watch the much football) even said "ouch, is that even a legal tackle!" haha

dont know if thats the right topic but damn i loved it. :) i am a steeler for years now although im from germany and hell after staying awake till 12:00am, when the broadcasting started over here to 4:30am, then two hours of sleep and now sitting at damn work it was still worth it. :yes:

unfortunately i wasnt able to see the commercials, but anyways, although it wasnt the greatest game of all time, it was still very good i think. :yes: :)

Seattle got screwed for two reasons

1. Poor Decisions

2. Poor officiating

If the seahawks scored there field goals they could've won. And if the ref didnt give steelers that rothlesberger (sp?) a touchdown, seattle probably could have pullled something at the 2 min warning. There was too much pressure to get 11 points. Outrageous referee calls, ex. horse collar on Shaun Alexander..wtf?
