icon11.gif BitTorrent is a P2P system that makes transfering large files (or groups of files) amongst a large group of people easy, fast and efficient. The BitTorrent network is impressive mostly for the speed and reliability with which you get files that have been recently released. As long as a .torrent file has enough people sharing then you can be assured that it will start quickly and maintain a good download speed. Always remember to leave your BitTorrent client open to help distribute the files!

Good job folks, thanks again for everyone's hard work!

Should be noted that it is fine to use the February update on top of the December full that has already been upgraded with January's update.

As well, as noted by dannyres on Jan 11, the google toolbar is now at 3.0.128.1, but it might be prudent to research the enterprise google toolbar install as a possible replacement for the consumer version.

Yes, no need for big files. Maybe next month there will be a full release.

Why You just don't make both: full and update; so that people with slow connections can download just the february update, and those with better connenctions the full february release...

Making a mirror for the full decemeber release is equal as to make the same for full february release...

Best regards,

everyone please note that this is not usually the case, usually you would have to do this: dec05 full/lite + jan06 update + feb06 update. however there was so little in the jan06 update that gandolas felt it was ok to add them to the feb06 update to reduce the number of downloads you need.

because theres no need to waste bandwidth like that. just because people with fast connections can download a 200MB file quickly, why waste their time and our bandwidth when last month only 5MB and this month only 20MB is all thats changed?

good job g ;)

Thank you for the release!

BTW, I also think that both full/update is better - if people will d/l full, it means that they haven't had the previous month's release anyway, no? In that case, what different does it make if they'll d/l December's or Febuary's...

But if you mean to say that you don't want to waste your own bandwidth updating mirrors, then I understand.

Anyway, your choice of course! :) Thank you for everything.

it doesnt matter whether people download one full/lite release or another, but it does matter when a large number of downloaders download the full/lite release every month when the update releases would do fine for them. if people didnt do this then we could make a new full/lite release every month as well. im not worried about my bandwidth at all, but all the mirrors who provide us with bandwidth for free; theres no sense in wasting it is there, and its not fair to them either.

You're totally right.

I've just thought of another suggestion please: Can you make the Update packages to be Stand-Alone? How much overhead would that require to a 20MB file? It'll be great even for new users that only need to update the last month's issues (e.g. they were using Windows Update or another update package until now) and it will even save more bandwidth as users won't need the full/lite platforms - that could compensate for the added bytes to make it stand-alone.

What do you think?

Great work people!

First a question...

1.) What has happened to Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (910620)

A sugestion... How about a Full version every other month, and an update version after each full release?

There is quite alot of updates that should be added to the full version, like the latest Hive cleanup 1.6, the new DirectX Feb version, Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup, Update for Windows XP (KB885222 v2), Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer for Windows XP.

There are probably alot more updates to what was included in the December Full version.

Oh yes, and fixing a few of the tweaks, as a couple don't work, like the num lock on, and another I cant quite remember at the moment.

Not having a go, just telling it like it is...

Yes, I too had noticed the "turn on Number lock" wasn't working.

Also, I found an anoying problem with 1 of the new(ish) security tweaks...

After installing autopatcher Feb06 with most of the security twaeks selected, I lost the ability to open system properties via the windows keyboard shortcut Win+Pause.

Does anybody know exactly which of those security tweaks is the culprit?

(to get the KB short cut working again, I simply rolled back to my raw windows XPSP partition image & ran Autopatcher again without the 4 security tweaks I suspected, & it worked. Thus, while I know it was definitely 1 of the security patche that was responsible, I don't know exactly which one).

Finally, I have a suggestion (2 actually, but they relate to the same topic):

Could we please have have links to the updates added to the Autopatcher homepage (at present, it only bares links for December Full Version).

Also, it would be nice to have eD2K & Torrent links available directly from the homepage, to save having to troll the forums every month for an update (yes, I realise that some people still use other P2P platforms, however, I would recomend that those people get with the times ! ;-) )

Cheers in advance.

@Propellerhead - I have XP SP2 and applied all patches, yet still have my Win+Pause shortcut...

Speaking of weird things: DirectX Feb2006 update - any attempts of mine to update (full redist. package / webupdate) failed after the EULA - does anybody know what might cause this? thanks.

Anyway, what'd you guys/gals/AP-team think about my suggestion ? ;)

thanks!

in future, i think u need to make 3 versions, like FULL, LITE, and UPDATE VERSION to the last months, cause most of the users like me and others update every month and we just like to have an update for 20 MB or summit instead of whole 200MB. And some ppl don't even have autopatcher, so they grab big ones ;)
