Duplicate why doesn't it work?

Recommended Posts

Something that really puzzles me, since the release of Mac OS X 10.4 GM "Duplicate" does longer work. All I, and others, get is the following error:

This week the system hit version 10.4.5 and still no change. What's causing this and why won't Apple fix it?

Yup, I'm talking about right clicking a drive and selecting "Duplicate". Doesn't matter what I pop-in CDs, DVDs, HDs or iPods they all give the same -8058 error. Never had any problems on Mac OS X 10.3 Panther but it just broke since 10.4 Tiger. :(

There is an Apple Technical Document on this subject. It basically says "you can't do it in Finder, use Disk Utility". Since using the duplication command also prevents the disk/drive to be ejected, I suppose it's a bug in Tiger that's still unresolved.

Kinda weird that they keep the "Duplicate" option still in place then. :/

And yeah we're talking drives here. Never knew you could duplicate everything, so sorry for the mix up. ;)
