.Neo
Something that really puzzles me, since the release of Mac OS X 10.4 GM "Duplicate" does longer work. All I, and others, get is the following error: This week the system hit version 10.4.5 and still no change. What's causing this and why won't Apple fix it? suspiria
I know, I want it to be fixed so bad. I've sent bug reports to Apple many a time since I've been using 10.
socialreject
I've been using "Copy" ever since I started using Mac OS. What's the difference between Copy and Duplicate?
MonkeyClaw Veteran Posted February 19, 2006 Veteran Share Posted February 19, 2006 I don't think there is one socialreject.... Also, welcome to Neowin!!!

socialreject
Thanks, I've been lurking on here for a few months but I finally decided to sign-up
bontakun
are you talking about right click -> duplicate, because i've never had problems with that on 10.3 or 10.4 (now running 10.4.5 and still no problems)
.Neo
Yup, I'm talking about right clicking a drive and selecting "Duplicate". Doesn't matter what I pop-in CDs, DVDs, HDs or iPods they all give the same -8058 error. Never had any problems on Mac OS X 10.3 Panther but it just broke since 10.4 Tiger. :(
allannyholm
I don't have any problems whatsoever with duplicating files in Applications for instance.
bontakun
well i have never been able to duplicate discs, because now it looks like that's the duplicate you're having troble with
Spacedog
There is an Apple Technical Document on this subject. It basically says "you can't do it in Finder, use Disk Utility". Since using the duplication command also prevents the disk/drive to be ejected, I suppose it's a bug in Tiger that's still unresolved.

Kinda weird that they keep the "Duplicate" option still in place then. :/ And yeah we're talking drives here. Never knew you could duplicate everything, so sorry for the mix up. ;) Edited February 19, 2006 by Neowave
