Speed up internet browsing by 40%

Recommended Posts

Many of you may know this trick but some may not so ill show you.

Windows maximum concurrent half-open connections is always been 10, why do you think linux, Unix is so much faster because there open connections go over the limit.

well microsoft did not allow this because then the internet would have soo much traffic and so forth.

now here is the solution:

there has been a patch to fix the open connections from 10 to 50!

here is how to do it:

Download, unpack and open this: http://www.betaxp.net/staff/jase/Stuff/EvID4226Patch.zip

When you open the patch you will get this:

Intelligent TCPIP.SYS patcher / EventID 4226 patch Version 2.23d

? 2004-05 LvlLord (www.LvlLord.de) use parameter /? for more options

This program is in development. Visit http://www.LvlLord.de for a new version

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Windows mode

- Recognised Windows-directory: C:\WINDOWS

- 'Windows XP SP2 or newer' TCPIP.SYS detected ...

- Build of TCPIP.SYS : 5.1.2600.2827 (I386)

- Build of safety copy: 5.1.2600.2827 (I386)

Found limit position : 0x4F5A2

Current maximum concurrent half-open connections: 10

If you continue, please press 'Abort' and 'Yes' on the popup from Windows

File Protection. Because we change system files, Windows tries to restore the

original one. So it's normal.

Do you really want to change the limit to 50?

(Y=Yes / N=No / C=Change limit / U=Uninstall)>

simply select your option, in this case "Y"

now wait for it to finish patching TCPIP.SYS

it will then ask to restart your computer. Thats it log back in and walla, fast internet speed. Thats all there is to it, NO THIS IS NOT A VIRUS of any sort if you dont know what you are doing leave it to a computer technician even tho its just a basic question.

hmm... interesting... I have no troubles with speed on my current XP setup, I'll keep this in Favorites/Bookmarks.

Well on second thought, my internet speed and quality has been really terrible. If I asked Charter they would probably say because it is so f***ing cold out. Seeing as my speed has been slow (tests prove it) I may try it tomorrow. It's been like 5 days, and emails to Charter.net Tech/Support is a waste. Everytime I get a smarta** answer. Starting to upset me... grrrr... but I don't want to switch to SBC/Yahoo because I've heard worse things from a few friend in my area. {/rant}

sorry what?

It doesn't speed up "browsing". It's more for p2p and then it's only incoming connections.

The limit is by default 10 per second, how can anyone open up 10 new webpages every second. Physically impossible.

I'm sure someone will come by and explain and do a much better job that I.

sorry what?

Sorry to tell you dude he is right.

I laughed when i seen this hehe.

All browsers are pre-optimized for best performance (in more circumstances) and has he said thefts the number of connection you have have open at ones inless a website has more then 10 frames all coming of different servers this want effect anything.

but i can see why you thought this though :)

Yeah. The only way this is really going to help is if you're downloading on a p2p network. Browsing isn't going to be affected.

Yeah this is probably one of the worst ideas in the list of things to do to your system files. The limit was not put in place to preserve the internet from an abudance of traffic, rather, it's there to protect you and your system.

I applied the patch (nothing bad happen, thankfully) and I can't really se that much of a difference - even when downloading multiple torrent - but it's not affecting my system so i'll keep it.

You should remove the patch. If you don't notice any difference, why keep yourself possibly vulnerable?

This patch only works for Torrents & p2ps, yes, but only for accelerating your speeds when you have just started downloading.

If you notice, your downloading speeds are slower than average during Startup, its because of Windows limiting 10 connections. So, there are a lot of connections in waiting, which are connected only after a open-tcp connection is free.

When u are connected to about enough peers, this will have no further effect as there arrent any more "Waiting-in the queue" connections.

On the other hand, this may cause you to slow down your borwsing speed while downloading.

So my opinion is:

Just throw this junk in the trash & move on with the I-Life.!! :D

First of all this does not increase incoming connections at all!!!!!

Windows XP Home only allows five incoming connections and Windows XP Pro. only allows ten incoming connections.

This patch is NOT for incoming connections. Its for half-open incoming connections. Big difference.

Anyways most people do not need this patch and those who do are only those who like already stated use p2p systems.

Like I said this patch allows more half-open incomming connections which does improve p2p because it means it will not take as long to establish a new connection to each peer when it gets its turn to. But again your still limited to the max incoming connects the OS can handle. And no there is NO! way around it. If you need more incomming connects then use Windows Server 2003 or Linux.

I hope this clears this up. ;) And yes this topic is very misleading. You will not see any 40% increase in speed, not even close. In fact you could see a decrease in speed because of two many half-open connects. And like already stated its a security risk to allow more than 10 half-open connections.

So this patch really is not recommanded at all unless you use p2p and know what your doing and except the security risk that comes along with it.

It's only for half open connections too. uTorrent for example limits its half open connections per 10 seconds to 8 anyway. I used to use it, now I don't I can't notice any difference.

You can change it via the advanced options. And yes for most people it will not mean a bit of difference.

BTW people to know if this will even help then run some torrents, p2p for awhile then check the event log to see if you get a warning about max half-open connects limit reached. If you do then perhaps the patch might help you bit. But if not then it will make no difference at all because your applications are not using more than 10 half-open incoming connections anyways.

if you use Firefox, you wouldn't think about speed issues....

That was the most trollish / noobish thing I've read all day. Congrats

:spam:

Anyhow, this patch is nice when you are using bittorrent but it does not affect your internet browsing in any noticable manner. I wouldnt waste your time using it unless you're an avid bit torrent user. I have this patch on my PC and it did not change anything noticably.

yes, its ture

it can speed up P2P programs for example, but not browsing.
